My first street fighter F4i
On my second street fighter F4i I wanted a smaller taillight and 'rear fender' setup. A friend found a track bike for sale, for cheap; it had track fairings that were a little beat up and was rolling on slicks. It also had a grocery list of upgraded parts.
So we got to work and cut the subframe in the desired location, then machined plates for the side, the tubing for support and some flat bar to cover the openings. These were all then tig welded into place and once all was ready, the piece was sent out for powder coating. Street tires, a couple of lights, some wiring from an ebay wiring harness, a trip to the DMV and it was done.
That bike has been sold as I started a much longer commute and didn't see the point in keeping it. This led to efforts made on my CRF450X - I wanted to get it plated. Baja Designs sells a kit for DOT lights, plate mount, turn signals, brake switch, wiring. Ordered the kit and made some DMV appointments.
It wasn't easy but I did it! Since then I've taken my enduro to Mariposa, June Lake, and Death Valley; I missed out on a trip to Baja this year, but there's always later. I also ordered a set of Warp 9 17's in gold, loving the sumo setup!
