Introducing the Watches Community

search
Hey everyone!
As the number of members who love watches has continued to grow, we’ve been receiving more and more inquiries about getting a stand-alone community going. Soon, we’ll be making this a reality.
This will give all the watches and their respective discussions a place to live, while maintaining the diversity of the Men’s Style Community. If you’re already a Men’s Style member, you’ll be automatically subscribed to the Watches Community. You can easily unsubscribe by clicking the star.
In the meantime, we can use this place to discuss some watches. What’s your favorite? What do you want to see next? Check out some polls like this (https://www.massdrop.com/vote/Best-New-Watch-Brands) and this (https://www.massdrop.com/vote/Best-Statement-Watches) to get started.
We’ll be hanging out here, and we look forward to hearing what you’d like to see. The Watches Community launches this coming Tuesday, August 30th!

I wasn't too sure where to start this topic, but does anyone have an idea of where I can buy an hmt pilot new? I know ebay has them used and re-serviced, but I'm not sure I trust the low low prices
Did just received mine today! Tick tock- I got a cool watch to rock! Thanks Massdrop!!!

But I'm in love with it! I work in landscaping, so at work I've always worn a GShock. Which is also big and bulky. But I've found my facination with watches to linked to; " mindfulness" That of being aware of the present moment. (Not the past nor future). So this watch in it's grand appearance & body weight, Remind me to be mindful. 🕐🕑🕒😎
@Massdrop please please can you do a drop of this watch. I saw a drop of the Ray model so i think you can do this. Thanks in advance. Orient Mako USA II SAA0200CW9

Anytime. I'll be sure to let you know if I find anything out about that watch. 👌

Here is a way to vote for this white dial watch for a drop. Let’s vote.

Would love to see USA made or USA assembled watches

Any brands in particular?
Any chance at getting a drop for a SHINOLA?

You can find deals on Shinola at a lot of discount fashion shops - Nordstrom Rack/Haute Look, Saks Off 5th Avenue, etc.
The 1st and 3rd one are callin' my name. Maybe the 1st one more.
Well now, I've allowed you folks at Massdrop 3 opportunities over the past 4 days to respond to my contacts through your Support page, but to no avail. Since I feel that this is a fairly generous time allotment to at least have you acknowledge me, and that you haven't, I figured I'd take my inquiry public. As mentioned in all 3 of my previous unresponded attempts to reach you, I have not received the item that was supposedly delivered on 12/6. I simply would appreciate some acknowledgement and let me know what, if anything Massdrop does for its customers in these instances. Thank You.

Wanted to chime back in and share that Massdrop is really stepping up to the plate! I'll update again when fully resolved, but as of right now, I'm pretty impressed. Thank you, Massdrop!

Just putting some closure to this "thread" (man, I spend too much time on watch forums, LOL). I felt it important to share that Massdrop has absolutely gone above and beyond in resolving my issue. It's reassuring to see that this level of customer-centric service is still alive and well. Thank you, Massdrop (and please let me know if you'd like me to remove this thread altogether). Best. Dave.
I would love to see a drop of the Alpina Seastrong Diver Heritage. It's a slightly altered reissue of the Alpina 10 of the early 60ies. It is a compression diver with very elegant lines which can be used also as a dress watch. I think it is the perfect sailing watch. I prefer the black/white dial shown on the picture.

I don't think you could quite consider it a reissue seeing as the current Alpina is really just a sub-brand of Frédérique Constant. There is no consistent lineage. More like an homage in my opinion.
Well I finally got permission from my wife to get whatever I thought I needed! What I needed was a knock on the head bringing my watch collection to 46... and I'm still thinking about adding a few more. What's a retired engineer to do? Chazman1946, if you look closely, you'll notice a couple of "mechanical" watches there.

OMFG.... i don't think i will be able to have such a collection like that. Cool. I have 24 and trying to keep myself in control. So right know my wife is keeping my credit card locked up. LOL.

Wish I had money for a collection like that
How about some Tissel watches, I have owned two seperate models of their Marine Diver, which is a Sub homage. These watches have a Miyota 9015 movement (both running under +4 seconds a day) have a nice braclet with the "easy link" extension, ceramic bezel, inner AR on the sapphire crystal.
The watch is from Korea, and believe me, this watch is at least 90% of the quality of the real thing. Best of all, these watches cost less then $300.

I've heard of Sinn but don't know too much about them. Perhaps it's time for that to change, thanks for the heads up.
Chazman1946
yes they are great. i have 2 of them..very well made and affordable.from sg
I would love to see Lum Tec watches on here and I bet they would give a decent deal. Anyone else fancy those?
Do you think you could some mid range swiss watches like Baume & Mercier in drops ? On other, more accessories watches brands, I believe DW would have a good success, or Charlie Watch if you like the style but want something a bit more unique. Some Vostok watches are also pretty interesting.
Im a huge fan of MIDO, is there a chance of there being a drop on a MIDO watch one day? @massdrop
Can you try to get a Seiko Astron on a massdrop?
Just snagged a new piece for the collection.. a Speedmaster Moon Watch, original Hesalite Crystal version. I'm pretty happy with it. I had a Sapphire sandwich version years ago but traded it for another watch before I was quite ready to part with it so I'm happy to add this one to the herd.

Here's my collection, and contrary to what a previous poster has said, mechanical watches are not going away any time soon.

I own several quartz and solar/eco-drive watches, but none of them hold a candle to my mechanicals. The quartz watches may sell more in volume to the masses, but the higher end mechancals get the actual lion's share of the profits. You ask why aren't more mechanicals beng offered? They are, but only those really interested in watches are looking for them, go to any watch forum Watchuseek, Watchfreeks, etc etc, and the interest in mechanicals is 20 fold compared to quartz!
Chazman1946
Nice collection and good taste in your choice of watches!
Hello, just because I have a lot of watches doesn't mean I know that much about the newest watches that have entered the U.S. market recently. Is there anyone here who can offer some insight about these watches that have come from prior unknown manufactures?
Well, I'm grounded from buying any more watches! While looking at my collection I know my wanting to buy another one is pretty dumb. Like, don't you have enough? Quietly though, my real thoughts are when will we see another drop with more watches. I agree with Tmac5002001, I'd like to see additional Seiko variations, Citizen variations, Casio variations, Omega variations, Tag Heuer...etc.
I want the Seiko sgeg97p1. Is there going to be another drop anytime soon?
Is anyone having problems with the clamp closing on the Seiko SARB watch from Japan?
Would like to know if anyone has an Oris ProPilot? Is it worth the money?
Steve_W, thank you. I have to admit that my collection was under scrutiny by my wife, like I spent too much money? Honestly, she was correct, I did go overboard way too many times, but I actually had more than these and gave some to friends and family. Being retired in 2012 I found myself wondering , "ok now what"? So I jumped into collecting stuff and started with watches, being a former engineer I really gravitate to excellent design, construction and quality. In fact this is why I liked MassDrop, they appear to select watches that a lot of people also find appealing, and when I get their email about what's new to offer, I get right to their watches. Some of my Seiko's are from MassDrop! I'm waiting for more to come.
For polls:
(1) Movements... Unless the drop might include both a quartz and mechanical watch, please keep a poll for EITHER quartz OR mechanical watches. Some of us really care for one or the other. And, in the description, please DO state which movement it is... e.g. handwound, automatic, quartz, AND the brand or country of movement e.g. Swiss, Japanese, Chinese. This makes a HUGE difference.
(2) Why on earth have a poll for a specific brand and model of a watch by SKU? Please make it clear that you want a specific family of a watch, but in different color dials and/or bands. e.g. Seiko Monster (then a black, and an orange for the poll)
(3) If you're looking for a poll of a type of watch and movement, please consider breaking the poll down into price ranges (even just "affordable" and "any price"). e.g. Both Nomos and Panzera have Bauhaus / minimalist watches, but one's $2500 and the other $250.
Any other ideas?
Fearlessleader
I was responding to someone else comments. Take your polls information and stick them in your wallet and leave them there to rant on another member. Your comments are out of place and just ludicrous.
I'd like to know the model of the Seiko watch at the top for the community. I found a similar model, but know with Roman numerals around the entire face.

OH, that one! Thank you for providing me with the exact watch you want information on. My dog is making a lot of noise being impatient for his morning walk, BUT, I will have that information in about 1 hour, I totally forgot about MassDrop's mascot watch, it's a nice piece that I'd like to have too so you've peaked my interest also!
Steve-W, this is the only Seiko watch that appeared to be like the one above and it's a SEIKO PRESAGE SARY023 MECHANICAL AUTOMATIC, eBay has it for $346.

Just read (past tense) this. Simplistic response: NP
Many colleagues in three letter agencies and LE prefer the accuracy of Quartz. Fine by me. Many others prefer never facing a dead watch due to a dead battery in the field. Others... just want to know what they're getting and may have a preference of movement when voting on watches.
Oh, automatics do wind fully by just wearing them along with normal everyday activit. Nothing special needed.
Chazman1946, I recently bought some 'Mechanical' watches and decided to share with you that too much about 'solar' power watches being better than the traditional mechanical ones was a mistake on my part. It's been a very long time since I've had one, and all the information you and I have discussed needed to be experienced for me to see how well a mechanical and automatic mechanical watches really are. The ones I bought were not 'high' end watches, they were about $125 to about $200 and so far I'm quite pleased about how nice they are and more accurate than I had anticipated. So, I have to apologize for being stubborn about my previous position standing on a misguided preference to 'solar' watches.
This is amazing! Can't wait!
I'm rocking a rusty old G Shock but it takes a beating and keeps running.
i am looking for a wind up fob watch that does not have a metal cover over the face. seems they are scarce as hens teeth now
Excellent!
Very excited AND very scared about this new community. Hi...my name is Steve and I am a watchaholic. Am a huge Sieko fan. I think the Astron is cool, but way overpriced...maybe even for Massdrop. My pride and joy (and most expensive watch) is a Victorinox Alliance Chrono with dark gray dial (photo below) and stainless case and band. IMHO...VERY smart looking watch that looks like it was twice the price. Casio Edifice is another smart looking watch at a realistic price. Hard to believe Casio has grown into that market. Looking forward to future watch deals! Thanks for creating the community.

I've noticed lately that many young people don't know how to read time from the standard, circular dial. It's an interesting phenomenon, brought about no doubt by the proliferation of digital readouts on smartphones and the like. Which brings up an interesting question--is the watch another living dinosaur? I've been an avid collector of timepieces, circular, rectangular or square for quite some time, and apart from its function, consider the watch to be an important stylistic accessory, especially for a man. But--has the modern wristwatch begun to be replaced by the rectangular slab that is apparently destined to rule our lives?
