Stainless steel case, Iris PCB, 65g Ergo Clears, socketed Pro Micros, white LEDs backlight, PMK Ice cap Ortholinear keycaps.

Keeb.io designs awesome keyboards. No drink in this shot, but usually a fresh made pour over coffee.

Noob question here: do you know if LED backlight installation is possible on all ergodox PCBs ? (I'm assuming not, but hoping it is).
I have an original ergodox ...

Thank you. I assume the ergodox looks just as pretty.

yanfaliOh no, not yet. Keycaps and a nice cable are on the way. Eventually I want a nicer case. I guess that's why this is considered a hobby ;)

Thanks for sharing! It looks awesome. I'm curious about how you use the 2 1u thumb buttons on the inner sides (Enter and Bksp on the right), the ones that could be replaced with single 2u keys. Is the placement comfortable for the lower? Is the upper one at all cumbersome to reach? I use an Ergodox and want to build an Iris. Cheers : )

David_RThanks! That's actually the default configuration. I've since switched to a modified hexwire config. My left side is LGUI, Lower and 2 space buttons, the right side is ALT, Backspace, Enter and Raise. I did find the placement hexwire/bakingpy uses for his enter key too error prone, as I kept hitting enter instead of quote.
I do find the upper thumb button to be a stretch, so I've placed less frequently used keys there.
I'm still experimenting with the key layouts. You can see my current config here: https://github.com/yanfali/qmk_firmware/blob/yanfali-keyboards/keyboards/iris/keymaps/yanfali/keymap.c

OK, the RGB strips I ordered arrived and I added the underglow mod. Extremely easy to do, just 4 wires on the primary and 3 on the secondary. It looks pretty good, I haven't quite figured out the trick with the adjust layer yet though. I did manage to rip off the connector on one of my pro micros though and had to replace it with a back up. Thank $diety it was socketed. I need to buy a sacrificial connector and hot glue it into place.

yanfaliBecause I destroyed a pro micro I added a sacrificial USB micro extension male to female extension and cable tied it to the spacers. Aesthetically it's not as pretty but the mechanical advantages outweigh that for me.
