Monterey Car Week 2016 - Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance (Part 3/5)
As a petrolhead, Monterey Car Week is a week worth of car related events like no other. Including the one that just wrapped up a week ago, I've been attending Monterey Car Week annually for four years so far. Figured I'd share some of my pictures from the week along with some thoughts.
Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance
By far the most prestigious Concours of the year, also the finale of the car week in Monterey. Nowhere else will you see a selection cars of this caliber each uniquely monumental in the automotive history.
It's also an incredible event to rub elbows with racing legends, accomplished automotive engineers, and rockstar designers. It was pretty unreal to see Sir Stirling Moss explained to Justin Bell how he dealt with bathroom breaks during Targa Florio and that modern Le Mans racing drivers are having things way too easy, while Sir Jackie Stewart nodding along behind them two.
Thought I'd change things up a bit and only brought my black and white camera to Pebble Beach this year. Here are a couple pictures I took from the event.
Starting with the concept lawn, Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 looking incredibly regal
Prince Badr bin Saud's insane Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo. Easily the most eye-catching car on the lawn
Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato
Ford GT. Still feeling disappointed that Ford rejected my application for one...
This year marks the 50th year since Ford GT40's first Le Mans win. It's only fitting to celebrate the anniversary with 15 Ford GT40s including the 3 cars that won Le Mans 4 years straights.
Here's a shot of Marino Franchitti in James Glickenhaus Ford GT40 MkIV. If there's one picture that can sum up what Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is all about, this has to be it.
It was just infatuating listening to Rod Emory explaining why the Porsche 356SL is one of the most important and brand defining cars in the history of Porsche Motorsport. And what an opportunity it was to be able to hear the story of all the hard work that went into restoring the car back to its original glory from the man himself. All the reasons why Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is such a special place to be.
