Something a bit different today: the Swatch Sistem 51.

This is a fun little piece; I picked up the Sistem Black and the Sistem Blue a while back and have been wearing them as a casual alternative or when I'm planning to do something a little more rough. I think Swatch really nailed this line as an affordable automatic watch that doesn't take itself too seriously. In addition, the movement is assembled in a fully automated system, and the case itself is hermetically sealed (the movement is initially set and adjusted by a laser, how cool is that?).

The movement itself is also a treat to look at and stays consistent with the fun theme. Each Sistem51 model offers a different take on the movement design and dial. The movement is made up of 51 components (hence the name) all attached to a central screw, and the bidirectional rotor actually is a clear plate with a design around the outside edge, allowing you to see more of the movement.

Generally cool stuff, and I think this is a nice foray into mechanized assembly to open up the price range for mechanical watches.

I can agree with that, just pointing out Sistem 51's shortcomings for a more objective assessment.
