Another option if the piece is water resistant is an ultrasonic washer. They can be had for really cheap.

Also give MicroBrush a try when you need to get into the tiniest of spaces. I use to use them when I was restoring vintage cameras but found they work great on watches too. A tube of 100count dirt-cheap on Amazon - under $10....maybe less.
