There Are Pandas, and Then There Are Pandas.
And this isn't either of them! The Pandas we're talking about here, are watches, not bears. And what got me thinking about them (again) was a link posted this morning by @cm.rook who pointed a few of us to the very attractive (and not terribly priced) Yema "Rallygraph" Panda which, in it's most traditional arrangement, looks like the one on the left, but can also be had in the version on the right: The model on the left is a true Panda, while the model on the right is called a reverse Panda. The reason for that distinction is clear--Panda bears, only come in the first arrangement. Now at this point, everyone should be thinking about the most well-know Panda, The Rolex Panda, which is actually a Daytona, and among Rolex Daytonas, the most famous of which is the Paul Newman Daytona, which was famous first, because it was Paul's, and second because it sold at auction for $17.8 million (US Dollars). Of all my Invicta’s this is the one I love the most. I don’t ware it as much these days but I really enjoy having it on when it comes up in the rotation. The overall case size is 47mm which perfect for me considering plenty of Invicta’s are checking in at 50mm which I find too big for me. The egg yoke yellow hour markers and hands play well with the white dial, it’s a great combo. The bracelet has plenty of sparkle & shine to catch the eye of anyone nearby - solid links too!
The best feature on this watch is the 100% full lume on the dial. Once charged up the complete dial glows blue…Sweet! But wait, there’s more! The hands, tip of the sweeping seconds hand, and 60min mark on the rotating bezel all glow with a yellowish-green lume to complement the blue lume of the dial…Awesome!
The lume dies down by about 60% after about 15mins but can still be seen almost 2hrs later. My only real complaint about this watch is the flatness of the bezel, it’s hard to grasp and turn - it’s too flat and unusable. Lot’s of Invicta watches use this same bezel design….it kinda sucks. Either way I love this watch, in fact I bought it’s evil twin which I’ll strap on tomorrow….stay tuned!
