Thanks to all for your comments, I've been happily using the Monks, and still can't believe how good they are for the money. Have been trying out a friends Samsung s8 phone and the "tuned by AKG" earbuds that came with it. The phone is stellar, but I just can't work out what the fuss about the bundled earbuds is. Used the Monks on the phone and the difference was phenominal, just so much better. Are there any classic style earbuds better than the Monks? Pity there seem to be hardly any options in a classic style, my ears really don't get on with canal types at all.

hal55I hated the Monks, to each their own I guess.

ohsigmachiI liked Monk Plus for the price they sell and they were really worth more. One thing I hated was the pain after wearing for a short while. However, I gave them to many of my friendsas gift.
Then they released Monk IE. Wanted to give it a try and bought both biggies and smalls bundle.
They sounded lousy even after hundred hours of burn-in.
The packaging was cheap, sound was cheap, build quality was cheap, the 2.5 to 3.5 cable was loose and lose connection.... They were half baked product.
So I sent them an email.... which they never reply.

ridhuankimI really feel that the sound reviews for the Monk Plus is just quintessential internet hype. The Denon AH-C260 beats them in every possible way, plus they are orders of magnitude more comfortable and they're $20, which is exactly what I paid for the espresso limited edition Monk Plus I have. I gave them to my 16y/o son and even he just keeps them as a back up pair to his LG Quad beat 2s.
I've graduated to a set of Vsonic GR07 37th Anniversary edition IEMs and couldn't be happier, you get what you pay for.

ohsigmachiThe Monk+ are exceptional at 5 dollars. If you need to pay more than 5 dollars then there will be competition.

ridhuankimSorry I don't share the sentiment; uncomfortable, mediocre sound for $5 just means you wasted $5 or need to get $15 more dollars...
I own three different sets of IEMs that I would 100% take over my Monk Plus espresso edition (currently $25 on amazon), and they were all less than 25 dollars (some considerably so).

In my opinion they all sound better than the Monks, and I can wear them for hours longer than the monks without feeling like my outer ears have been pillaged by marauding vikings.

ohsigmachiIts okay if we dont agree if Monk+ is worth 5 dollars or not, our ears are different.
But 5 dollars is 5 dollars. I am okay with it.
What I cant bear is VE Clan selling half baked product and not standing behind their product.
