This watch is a project that I have been working on.

A while back , I saw this dial with beautiful Arabic calligraphy on Ebay. The watch is a Vostok commander with the 2409 hand wind 17 jewel movement.

I personally like cushion cases and geometric designs, so I found a suitable old Vostok cushion case and bezel. These cases and bezels come as chrome plated brass. I don't like the chrome plated look, so I used muriatic acid to strip the plating. Then I filed down the bezel (used to be circular) to a 12-sided polygon, to compliment the case.

The arabic can be interpreted as, "in the name of God, the infinitely good, the boundlessly merciful," it was probably made at a time when Muslims were not portrayed as the antagonists in the world stage.
