Of interest are the dial markings. While the indices are applied every 5 minutes (30 degrees), the outer markings are not. For some reason, the outer markings are broken into 9 degree segments (1.5 minutes/seconds) that synchronize with the primary indices every 45 degrees.
Anyone know the philosophy behind this?
Maybe it is meant to be a reminder that we need to re-center ourselves periodically.
