How far will a wristwatch fanatic like me go to buy a watch? Try Oberammergau in the district of Garmisch Partenkirchen - Bavaria, Germany. I bought a Zeppelin 7656-5 LZ127 Automatic last week to add to my growing collection of automatic watches which now stands at 29 pieces. Another 39 pieces are Quartz (battery powered) or non-automatic / manual wind.
It was bought at a jewelry / watch dealer called Kügles Uhrwerk Location: Dorfstrasse 9 82487 Oberammergau
I was also allowed to pin my home location on a big map hanging in the store as a testament to how far customers have traveled before wondering into his shop. Note the red arrow pointing to the pin I attached to San Jose, CA. - one of only 2 buyers from California and a whopping 5 total from the U.S. Note: 5888 miles between San Jose, CA and Oberammergau Bavaria Germany (13hrs & 20mins)

Nice watch, but I'm more envious of the trip to Oberammergau. I was there in 1990 and have been all over Bavaria and love it there. Awesome to buy a German watch in Germany. Congratulations on the purchase and on the trip.
We're you there for the Passion Play or watches? Nice looking timepiece

I learned all about the Passion Play but wasn't there for that - tickets were a few years out. It was simply part of a bus tour to Oberammergau set-up by the cruise line I was on (Avalon Waterways). We sailed along the Danube river starting in Vienna then to Durnstein - Melk (Austria), Grein - Linz (Austria), Linz - Passau (lower Bavaria, Germany.), and Munich (German state of Bavaria).

The cruise included bus tours to several small towns and cities along the way….10-days total. My hidden agenda was to search for used German made watches, vinyl records, and fountain pens. Didn't see too many used watches, in fact hardly any due to time constraints and location. I stumbled upon an army surplus store that had about 12-15 vintage German military field watches but they looked to be in really bad shape. Also found an antique store that had plenty of old watches but the shop keeper was hesitant to wind them up as proof of functionality. But I did see plenty of new watches of the most expensive brands Rolex, IWC, Tag, A. Lange & Sohne, Glashutte, and many more. All of the major brans had boutique shops setup all over Vienna, Munich, Linz and more. the international tourist were snapping up high price watches as if it were a fire sale….it was crazy!

In addition to my Zeppelin I came home with 8 jazz records (vinyl) which included Miles, Coltrane, and Monk to name a few. Found no fountain pens in my price range….bummer.

The Passion Play is only every 10 years, in years ending in 0. The next one will be in 2020. I was fortunate enough to see it in 1990.
Hi.
I have this watch, but already put it up several times for refund. The selfwinding mechanism rattles like a child toy. How is yours mate?

So far it’s sound good, rotor spins nice and smooth and the watch sound pretty quiet when being worn on my wrist.

I have the 7656-1 variant and that "rattle" when the rotor spins or comes to a stop is normal. It's characteristic of the Miyota 8215/8205/821A/820A movement.
