I wonder why I can hardly find full size headphones with multi-driver.
As we know ,you got these good headphones balanced just like the mono-block trick in speaker systems. And those multi-driver IEMs from mainstream to flagship make me think this is another trick learned from speakers.
But how about full size headphones ?
The main issue with full-sized over ear headphones is that the differences in positioning of the drivers would distort the soundstage and create imaging artifacts. You can do it in am IEM because the differences in positioning are canceled out when all the separate wavefronts are forced through the same tunnel into your ear canal. It's also helped that the drivers are very efficient, with much higher sensitivity than typical headphone dynamic drivers, so the lost energy from the crossover network isn't a huge deal. Many of the same parts used in IEMs would also explode if subjected to the amount of power that many headphone amps deliver, and replacements that can handle the stress are larger, and you'd need to figure out where to put them.
