I'd recommend (on the cheaper side) an SMSL 793-II running to a Little Dot I+ with a Voskhod tube upgrade. On the more expensive side of things, I replaced the 793-II with a 1st gen Matrix Mini-I and the DAC is unbelievable. Also bought a Little Dot MK II. I expect that to go well.

AReasonableManI also have the Little Dot Mk ll and it works great with these and they really shine with headphones that are too bright.

AReasonableManThat SMSL 793-II will drive the HD650 beautifully on its own. I have a tweaked Darkvoice amp that is enormous and drives the HD650 effortlessly to deafening levels. If you are listening at unhealthy volumes then the extra headroom of a more powerful amp is beneficial. At healthy levels the SMSL’s internal amps provide enough headroom to resolve even the biggest dynamic peaks without compressing, clipping, odd-order harmonic distortion or any other discernible effects of an overdriven circuit. I run the DarkVoice from a Schiit DAC in my office. In my man cave I use the 793-II by itself to drive my HD650 and Beyerdynamic 880s. Not getting discernible audio penalty with the spartan setup. That little SMSL box is a really good little budget piece of gear. I feed it from the optical out of an AirPort Express.
