New Keyboard?

more_vert
Hello Guys, I'm completely new here, (and not english btw, won't be perfect english).

I don't totally understand the point of this site yet, but I see a huge communitie arround Mech Keyboard so I was wondering if you guys can help me on something :
I Actually have a Roccat Ryos MK pro, but after more than 1 year of life, leds are starting to die 1 by 1. This is a known probleme on the keyboard so I was wondering of changing to a new one, one that I could upgrade with time. But I have litteraly Zero experience in keyboard so I have a few questions :
--> If I change a Key on the keyboard, will it repare the led? or is it completely dead? (Like embeded in the chasis)
--> Is it possible to buy a Keyboard template and Cherry mx red/brown switch to put on it ? Like a totally DIY keyboard, (and put on it the Roccat's Keys that are still alive and good to use?)

I think that's all for the moment, thanks by advance !

Hello Robin and welcome to the wonderful world of keyboard enthusiasts ! There's much to learn about DiY keyboards and the r/MechanicalKeyboards on Reddit is a good community to start, before delving deep into Geekhack or Deskthority. We're a few FR around here though we're not as many as other EU or US members of that community. You can ping /u/Wild_Haggis_Hunter on Reddit, he'll be able to answer you as best as he can en francais if you're interested in building your own keyboard or repairing the one you have.

I'm not a DIY guru, so please correct me if I get anything wrong.
To answer your question, it depends. to check, pull off the keycap on one of the keys. If there is a LED on the switch, it is socketed into the switch. Otherwise, it's directly attached to the PCB. In both cases, you will have to remove the faulty LED and replace it. I don't know the proccedures for replacing the LED.
It is possible to make a DIY keyboard. The most common form is a kit, which usually includes the following:
a PCB a Case Keycaps Switches
To use the switches on your current keyboard, you will have to desolder the switches, which requires a soldering iron and a solder pump. You will also need to solder the switches onto the PCB, which requires solder flux. However, this step can be circumvented by using hot-swap sockets.
