The perfect rain shell has not been invented yet but think along the lines of a DWR that does not fail (Jacket wets out). Columbia's Outdry Extreme is OK but the "breathability" needs to improve. Jacket Features in no particular order of importance: 1. Ajustable Hood with moldable brim...think OR style hoods 2. Vislon Zippers instead of lame coil zippers. 3. Adjustable cuffs in the sleaves 4. An interior that does not absorb water and get soaked when the jacket is overwhelmed with body moisture (the water should bead up so you can wipe it dry). 5. A permanent DWR that does not wet out. 6. Full size pit zips 7. Beyond torso length sizing 8. Lightweight, packable, and durable materials

MasterRoNot sure about the zippers, but the zpacks vertice checks off all of your other wants. I'm almost positive they can do a custom sizing as well. It's just really expensive. http://zpacks.com/accessories/wpb_jacket.shtml

tie-dieIf their DWR is permantent (does not require replenishing with wear), they did not advertise it as such based on what I have read off their site. They also did not adverise any degree of air permiability which can yield a more comfortable shell when the humidity it high ambiently speaking.

MasterRoTheir material used to be called cuben fiber and was rebranded as dyneema composite or something. Either way- I've used this material on my first backpack for thruhiking the appalachian trail - the arc blast 55L. The cuben fiber (dyneema hybrid/composite/whatever) material was fantastic at keeping the rain out. Even when walking through rain for hours on end- the bag was extremely resistent to letting any water in- and my items stayed dry, no additional dry bag needed. So regardless of the dwr coating- I believe this is just meant to make the water bead off (the first layer is just for color and robustness of the waterproof layer underneath)- the jacket should provide the same waterproof performance. I'm very close to picking up a vertice myself- and I'll eventually do a review on it.
