smallbitEither the Focal Elex or AQ Nightowl. For IEMs I like my Shure 846.
jaydunndidditI can definitely get behind a good portion of that list as well as the Elex for Rock listening, the sr325e is also an outstanding rock can but Grado can be very polarizing.
Have you heard the 5.1 Hi-res mix(DVD-A) of Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots by chance?

ElectronicVicesI have not. I'm sure it's a treat. I have FLACs ripped from the CD I had many years ago. It's a well produced and mixed album IMO. Even more so that I have better headphones to appreciate it all, ha.
jaydunndidditI dabbled in the SACD/DVD-A realm many years ago, that particular album as well as DSOTM & In Absentia stood out as well done surround mixes. A lot of the 5.1 mixes weren't very well thought out on those discs, when done properly they were pretty jaw dropping.

ElectronicVicesThe '5.1 Yoshimi' is one of my all time fav DVDA discs. I ended up so deep down the rabbit hole of DVD-A/SACD albums that to this day I'm still trying to replace the standard cds in my collection whenever a 'surround sound' mix is available. Its hard to pick a definite favourite, I guess maybe the DVDA version of 'Together We're Heavy' by Polyphonic Spree, who's 26 members definately benefit from the extra space available in a 5.1 mix.... Closely followed of course by the SACD version of DSOTM & the DVDA of LOVE. 'Yoshimi' would def hold a spot pretty high up in my top 10. I'm still yet to get my hands on DVD-A copies of In Absentia or Deadwing, but Steven Wilson's mixes seem to really flourish when he has the extra dimensions to play with. Would love to hear of any other stand outs you may've come across if you think they're worth a mention? cheers

ShityeahStudiosI worked for JVC when DVD-A was released and they had us demo it in the local PBX on a 2.1 boombox. It made me angry considering they had full nice 5.1 systems for sale but it still blew everyone away. Wish I had kept that demo disc since it had a nice selection of songs, now that I know what DVD-A is.
ShityeahStudiosMissed the boat on dead wing, they had a DVD-A release/re-release for most of their albums on their/his website at one point. I also have a copy of lightbulb sun in addition to the In Absentia disc... Have south of 40 DVD-A's and SACD's but there were purchased many years ago. I still break them out from time to time but my current living room setup isn't as conducive to proper 5.1 audio any longer.

jaydunndidditHonestly you can can save a lot of time by just playing all Zion I discography to test headphones with.
rdodevOh, I agree with that. A definite hidden gem I never hear anyone talk about. I stumbled upon them many years ago and have been a fan since. It's always unfortunate when talented guys like them never get the acclaim they deserve.
jaydunndidditBandcamp has the full discography for 131.66 (38 releases)
ShityeahStudiosMetallica/Metallica (Black Album) in DVD-A is pretty stellar and Hell Freezes over, a DTS disc, is also pretty well done. The seven bridges road bonus track has vocals and guitars surrounding you.
