It all depends. Winter requires a different pack than summer. I use packs made from cubes fiber (dyneema) from Hyperlight Mountain Gear and Zpacks for three season trips. For winter, I need something beefier. Through the years, I have collected packs. I am happy, that they get lighter and stronger. Many packs are simple bags. Others have multiple pockets. Both have advantages and disadvantagees. The hip belt must be robust enough to carry the weight off your shoulders. It’s a delicate balance of multiple systems, that make a truly good backpack.
