Just wondering here. How much money do you have to really spend to get a quality winder that will last more than 3 years with daily use? I have purchased 4 winders over the years and they have lasted between 2 days and 3 years of regular use. Does anybody have a winder they actually have used daily for the last 10 years or so and never had a breakdown?

BF_HammerYou should tell us which winders you bought and how long the lasted. Thank you for your comment :) I will presume that winders in the upper price range are built to last longer than the cheap ones you find on eBay / Amazon.

KarmabananasOver the past 13 years I have bought 4 different winders. My first was actually a Wolf and it gave out after 9 months. I went to more generic winders after that. One stopped working in 2 days and was obviously defective from the beginning. It was from a deal-a-day site and I simply took the refund on that one. Had another from Overstock (again a generic name) that lasted less than a year. My last one I paid up a bit more (over $100 this time) and it actually took me about 3+ years, not quite 3.5.
So I ask because I have yet to see anybody post a testimonial about using a watch winder daily and having it last reasonable amount of time. I have read accounts of people having a winder for as long as 10 years, but they never use it regularly. I'm wondering just how deep your pockets have to be to get one that actually works a long time. Haven't found that one person with first-hand experience willing to come forward yet. I actually have taken each winder apart after failing, and either the control circuits or the motors are too light-duty to hold up. My last one had very light duty control circuits with decent-looking motors and drive trains. It really needed some beefier transistors to drive the motors.
I initially wanted to use a winder to keep my old Seiko 5 that I wore regularly on my job to stay wound over the weekend when I was wearing other watches. I never liked the shake-start routine when I was hurrying to get ready for work on a Monday morning. I gave up on that plan after 8 years and started using a solar powered watch at work instead.

BF_HammerThanks for the reply and your experience. I would presume that the more high end winders, should last longer, depending of use than the cheap ones you find online.

KarmabananasI respect your presumption, but I am still waiting for an actual testimonial.
