That other input device: let's talk about mice

more_vert
You may think that this post should be on the tech community, but I want to talk about it with people that use mechanical keyboards: most of us spend quite a bit of money just to have a better looking and feeling keyboard, but the same degree of personalization can't be done with mice. My complain is that I like to use an high-end mouse too, but it seems that those are only available as gaming devices, thus with over-modern aesthetic that seems to come from the far space, which is really something I am not a fan of. What's even worse is that I am used to mice with 3 thumb buttons and a tilt wheel (I have esc, del and "win+tab" on my thumb, and ctrl+c / ctrl+v on the wheel) so the options are further reduced. I am now using a G502, that for the most part is a good mouse, it's just subpar compared to the keyboard I use. So the question is what mouse are you using? Are you happy with it?

G600 for life. I love the 3rd click. It acts as its own modifier key and essentially doubles the amount of binds you have on the side buttons. The associated software and onboard memory sucks tbh, but no other company has made an MMO mouse with a 3rd click so *shrug*.

The ExoVault mouse is the coolest mouse I've ever seen. It'll be delivered in December. I can't wait to see how it actually is. https://www.massdrop.com/talk/9569/the-coolest-mouse-ever

Well my favorite is actually my G502. The sensor is about as perfect as it can get, and the amount of buttons on there gets addicting. Personally, I think it looks pretty alright, but I can totally get if you think it looks too "gamery"

StormFalcon32The G502 is really a great mouse, my only concern is that in my opinion G302 and especially G102 looks a lot better! Another thing I think is that aluminum keyboards are quite common, but anyway the only aluminum mouse I have ever seen is the apple magic mouse, that is atrocious in everything but build quality and scroll wheel!

I really, really like Mionix mice for being gaming mice that keep it simple and come in several colorways. I'm using a cheapish Logitech myself, but a Mionix in pink is on the want list for sure.

I am using a G402, both at home and at the office. It has served me well, fits my hand very well, has a accurate and fast sensor. But it really looks like something from future space travel. At least as gamers would imagine it to be :/ I would love to fully customise a mouse. With performance, aesthetics, tactility and materials.
I have a steelseries rival 700 for gaming, the tactile feedback is useful, and I like the customizibility. Before that I used a Wacom intuos 5 with the mouse puck... Which is a really awesome setup, very accurate, no lag, and all the benefits of a wireless mouse, without the downsides. If Wacom would make a gaming focused version, with a few more buttons it'd be perfect, but sadly, it's basically a 2 button mouse.
Yeah, the biggest thing was the mouse used the EMR system off the pad, which meant it was insanely light, since there's very little inside of it, and it had a precision that is seriously unmatched. It also has a setting that you can tell it how close it needs to be to start tracking, like that steelseries mouse with the two sensors. And to think they also had this on the original graphire pad almost 20 years ago.

PequenininhoI had one of these and it was by far my favorite mouse for ages until I started using trackballs because of elbow problems. The variant I had used a scroll wheel on the side of the mouse under your thumb (it was a large wheel with openings on left and right of the mouse for left or right hand use) that didn’t turn freely but offered levels of resistance and scrolled faster the farther you pushed it. Missed that for years until Magic Trackpad completely re-wired my brain.

G603, G305, Beige NOS Logitech ps2 ball mouse w/ scroll wheel and several older Logitech mice. Model Ms tend to look good with older mice. The Logitech m325c is a treat and is available in a variety of colors, patterns or graphics. Currently using the G603 with a TKL Filco w/ blank black/charcoal keycaps.

I've got the Logitech G402. I like it, even though I don't use all it's features. My all-time favorite mouse is the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0. It had every feature I wanted, and nothing that I didn't. I wore out 3 of them, even after replacing switches.
If you look around, you can probably find Cherry switches to replace the Omron switches that every mouse maker uses. That's about the best you could do to mod a mouse.

I use a g602 cuz I am one of those scrubs that prefers wireless. I really like it. I don't use to many bindings though, so the 6 side buttons are more than enough for me.

fhoodI also use a G602, mostly because it's a lot easier to carry a wireless mouse around my college campus. The 6 thumb buttons are really useful to me. I have them set to browser forward and back, undo and redo, battery status, and paste. I do a lot of programming and cad work, so these are remarkably useful to me.

if you have the funds, how about Swiftpoint Z? (https://www.swiftpoint.com/product/swiftpoint-z-mouse/) I think it's a great alternative for the G502. (I have used the G502 for a while)
The Z has more buttons, weight less than the G502. its software has lots of customizations and you can save your settings in the mouse itself.

TomKazanskyDamn, that's a pretty nice mouse.
Not sure how much I'd actually use the "tilt to peek" thing though, seeing as how in games that support that I still need the mouse to be able to track accurately while leaning out.

TomKazanskyI didn't know the swiftpoint, but it seems a really innovative mouse! Not really what I am looking for (a non gamer shaped mouse with 3 side buttons, something like a logitech G102 with one more button and a tilting wheel!) but still a company I will keep an eye on!
