I bought a first generation Canon 5d and I love it. If you need modern features, dont get one. But if you know what you're doing this camera will be one of the best choices of your life. The money you save from not buying something 2 to 3 times as much can be used for some good glass too.

I just bought my first full frame camera and I went with a Sony a7iii. Had I known a little better I would have bought the a7riii for the extra pixels when cropping. All in all, only thing I miss about canon are the prices lol. Canons lenses are a bit cheaper so.

The A7II and A7III in various iterations are great cameras, but are not the most straightforward to use. I suggest to anyone considering buying one that they rent one for a day or two. Just to be sure they like how they operate. Also price out the lenses. Sony and Fuji are both great systems with limited lens selections that get quite expensive. May as well jump to Leica if that is your bag!

Right now the current state of digital photography is very mature.
There are a number of different brands to choose from. All of which will get you excellent results.
The current favorites are Sony for their sensor technology.
The other brands out there are not able to quite get the same amount of high exposure settings without a ton of noise.
However Sony cameras are kind of famously a pain in the ass to use.
On the other end we have Canon which makes everything from high end pro cameras to $400 APSC beginner cameras. Canon stuff is really easy to use and get results. The full frame 6D and 6DII are very good. But it's hard to justify spending so much on a full frame with so few AF points and comparatively miserable dynamic range and high iso perfromance.
I'd throw another hat in the ring and point out the Fujifilm XT20 and X2pro. Their Xtrans sensor technology is pretty good. Garnering full frame-ish performance from a smaller body with an APSC sensor. Their sensor already has a filmic look, and their cameras are very handy and ergonomic compared to NIkon, Olympus and Sony cameras of the same size and style.
(The Canon mirrorless are probably more ergonomic, but are kind of clunky for a small mirrorless?)
If I had to buy right now I'd get a Sony A7 or A7II and tough it out with the menus. Or grab the best Fuji I could afford. I've been a Canon person for a while, their lenses are first rate! But their cameras seem to be outdated, and Canon is content to roll out updates to their product line at a snails pace.

What has happened to MassDrop?
I have been gone about two years and return to find a completely a different shopping experience. Even though Spring is upon us...I can count ALL the outdoor items on less than my 10 fingers. Is this the norm now from Drop? Thanks

I bought a Glycine GL0187 and got it about a week ago.
The dial in the picture of the Glycine GL0187 on drop.com is black. The dial on the one i received looks 2/3 faded greyish and the bottom more black. I know it's not, but the dial has the water damaged look. It's not nice and pretty anoying. Any comments?

Completely surprised by the lack of blade diversity here on Drop...
I’ve been a collector of Blades since before my teens, and a retailer coming up on 15… or maybe 20 years. Drop has really been kind of an interesting experience for me, because I do occasionally get to see some unusual tech and sometimes EDC items that otherwise I might not have been aware of. And maybe it’s because I have a deep love of cutlery and bladed weapons, but I find myself trolling through the site looking at it what’s available; and it’s just it’s pretty much the same. And the bladed community here is just always confused me.. every single knife is about the same, they’re almost all drop points and although the handle materials change and brands change.. it’s really just the same knife over and over and over again... occasionally you’ll see a tanto or a slight variant; but rarely… and almost never a serrated blade. And I’m just deeply amazed at this diversion of serrated blades. And I’m just surprised there isn’t more of a request for diversity here.... and I...

Would be nice to see some Sony E mount full frame cameras on here. I currently shoot with a A99 and they killed the lense path for better or more option lenses and now is all E-Mount. 🤔
