HD6XX vs K7XX for Gaming

more_vert
I'm looking to get new headphones for both casual music listening as well as gaming (with the deciding and important factor being gaming). I primarily play CS:GO and Overwatch, and was looking at the HD6XXs and the K7XXs. I recognize that neither are designed with gaming in mind, but I wanted to get some opinions on the two because they both seem like killer deals.
From what I've read in other posts (since this appears to be quite a popular topic), the 6XXs are better for music while the K7XXs are better for gaming, but I was wondering if anything would be different for the specific games I play. Also, does either have better positional audio, or are they about the same?
It seems the 6XXs have the upper hand in built quality and comfort (and in my opinion, aesthetic), so deep down I'm kinda hoping they're just as good or better.
P.S. If anyone could suggest a realitively cheap DAC and/or an AMP or a DAC/AMP combo to match the cans that would be great (thoughts on Schiit Fulla 2?).
EDIT: The "SMSL M3 USB DAC/Amp" and the "SMSL Q5 Pro DAC/Amp" were just released on Massdrop for under 100$. Would those be any good?

I've had both. K7xx is better for gaming due to its bigger sound stage. It'll sound fine out of a Schiit Fulla 2.
I actually like the K7xx better for most music too.

The set with the higher emphasis on treble should be better for gaming, assuming the game actually gives a spatial sense to the sound. In that regard, I did read the AKG set has the sparkle that the HD650s does not (which is true, being an owner of one). Keep in mind you can always modify the sound with a system-level equalizer - I've yet to play a game where I felt I should go "purist" on the sound (well, Skyrim, maybe), and digital EQs aren't as crap as some might suggest. As for DAC/Amp, by now there's too many of them (and 90% of them appear to have 4.5+ star reviews), so I'd just go for what budget left. Eitherway, for gaming, you really won't mind. For music, I owned the original Fulla, which was alright in the amplification department but the DAC was a little meh. The second gen is said to be better, and is modular, so you might as well.

DimaGThanks for your reply! Is the "sparkle" that you describe significant enough to warrant me getting the K7XXs over the 6XXs? Both games do have positional audio, and being able to recognize the location of footsteps is arguably the most important aspect of sound in both games. That being said, if the K7XXs are only a bit better, then I would still prefer to go with the 6XXs, but if they are significantly better at positional audio (I think that's what sound stage is?), then the K7XXs it is.
Also, the "SMSL M3 USB DAC/Amp" and the "SMSL Q5 Pro DAC/Amp" were just released on Massdrop for under 100$. Would those be any good? (Sorry if that's a dumb question I'm new to this :P)
