The strap buckle looks like it wasn't designed for such a thick strap. It never occurred to me that buckles assume a strap's thickness until I bought two replacement black buckles from Amazon. Something wasn't quite right compared to the original chrome ones from Vulture. From the springbar to the leading edge the buckle has to reach over two layers of strap, and when the strap is thick the leading edge has to have a sufficiently wedge shaped cross section or it will looked tipped up a bit and not lay flat on the strap material.
So buckles have to match the width of the strap, the color of the watch case metal, and the thickness of the strap material. One more thing I learned: the tang has to fit the strap holes, especially a problem when trying to use an original branded buckle on a replacement strap. Also, the bend of the tang lip sometimes doesn't fit the strap leather thickness.
The deeper you get into this customization stuff, the crazier it gets.
