TsiklonI'm fortunate. My wife gets it as this hobby is cheaper than buying car parts. My co-workers on the other hand do not understand at all. They find it odd that I have multiple cans and amps depending on my mood and music choice for the day ha ha.

TsiklonHow do you like the 58X compared to the 6XX? Debating which one to buy (run from a Fulla 2).
fullmetal13I’ve not spent enough time with the 58x to properly give them a fair shake compared to the 6xx, what I can say is that they are definitely alike, the 58x are a true addition to the 600 series.
Personally, in spite of the cans in my collection, I’ve discovered I’m not so much a fan of a flat reference sound, favouring a more warm sound. There's a bit more Bass present in the 58x when compared to the 650/6xx - but remember none of these cans are thunderous bass cannons.
Have you had a chance to try the 650/6xx before on your setup?
jaydunndidditOhh I understand - it is a difficult thing to try to explain to people who don't get it - though I was able to demonstrate that there was some method in the madness to some friends who had not listened to more enthusiast level equipment before. usually in the materials used or by showing them a perfect genre/style match. - Wagner on the HD800S was very impressive to one particular colleague of mine, and both Oppo headphones impressed everyone who held them.
Personally I live in a shared house so I can't do speakers (besides that's a whole other money pit that I want no part in haha)
I can certainly relate to the switching things up depending on your mood - Just before I leave for work in the morning I pick a can for the road and one for the office. All depending on how I feel.

TsiklonYes, but only for a few days. The bass on them seemed to be L king a bit but they had such good reviews and acclaim, I wonder if I had too high expectations.

TsiklonHi, Tsiklon,
I too have many headphones. I have a question. I received recently my Sennheiser HD 58X. Are the Sennheiser HD 6XX really superior? Is there a purpose for me to buy them?
Thank you in advance, Regards,

FabobbyUnless you have a powerful amp, the 6XX are not ideal. They are quite current and voltage hungry and many. The 58X is more similar to the 6XX than different, offering better speed, more bass (quantity), and has a bit more brightness as to not sound "veiled" (but not to he point of being hot, sibilant, etc.). They're also easier to drive so you'll get most of their performance out of an amp and they sound decent right out of a phone. Personally, I enjoy them more than the 6XX although it does have the greater amount of detail retrieval and imaging but not by any massive margin. Soundstage was the same on both to my ears.

jaydunndidditI ended up buying both and am currently testing them both out to see if it's worth keeping both or selling one or the other. I have a decent amp (Magni 3), do you think it's worth it to keep both or sell one of them, and if so, which one? I'm trying to gauge your opinion, since you seem pretty knowledgeable, but I'm also already leaning towards one option.

fullmetal13Really, it's all preference. They are both more similar than different. The 6XX has more capability and will scale better with your gear and loves tubes. It also has the better detail retrieval and imaging but is IMO a bit too smoothed over and slow. The 58X is livelier, bassier, and faster. Being somewaht power hungry, will be easier to push to it's limits and get more from it than the 6XX which has bigger voltage and impedance swings and needs a good amp to compensate for that.
I think it would boil down to music preference and what you like more in your sound. The 6XX is just too slow for a lot of the blues I listen to so for me they're not ideal. I'm planning to give them another chance when I can run them balanced on a more powerful amp and make up my mind then. Otherwise, I will get rid of them over the 58X.

jaydunndidditI also ended up buying the 4XX and am waiting for those to ship. I'm trying to at least keep two that have the most different sound signature, so probably going to keep the 4XX and decide which compliments them better between the 58X and the 6XX. Not sure if you've heard the 4XX yet, but does that change your recommendation?
Really appreciate you taking the time to answer these questions, it's very insightful and helpful.

jaydunndidditThanks a lot for the information.
I have 2 amps : Asus Xonar Essence Stu, which is a powerful budget amp And the Nuforce HA 200, which might be a bit light
I liked smooth sound restitution, so the 6XX might be interesting.
Do you have much more definition with the 6XX?
Thanks again.

fullmetal13No problem at all. And yes, I do own the HE4XX as well. It's markedly different than both the 58X/6XX in a few ways. To me, they have a larger soundstage (albeit not by a huge margin). They're also brighter and have much more dynamic, punchy bass (although they don't have the best low-end extension, it's somewhat 'one-note'). Personally, I like them for their dynamic and bright sound which is a compliment to the "veiled" Sennheisers. I will say they are very power hungry as they're not very efficient. Before casting judgement on them, I would make sure they are properly amped so you're getting all that you can from them. That's why I think so many complain about them due to poor amping.
Personally, I love my Elex much more than the 58X and 6XX and like the HE4XX as a compliment to them. They're both very dynamic and for most of my music choices they pair very well. Neither are neutral and both are quite musical. Which, is right up my alley.
