ok so after getting into this game a couple months ago I now have 3 boards; one with Cherry MX blues, one with Cherry MX greens, and a buckling spring (IBM model M). That said; one of my blues is no longer clicking (its still hitting actuation and registering but its more of a brown now I guess) and it got me thinking. What are the most resilient switches, or those that are the least likely to break in any way?
Thanks for any info in advance.

cbalcom03Linear switches are probably the least likely to show any signs of wear since they have no feedback other than just working.
However, I'm not sure of the durability battle between different makers like Matias vs Cherry vs Topre so I'll let the people who know about each of those respond.

AlexPkThanks for the feedback. I think the next switches I'm going to try are the Cherry MX clears. I don't think I can do straight linear because I really like the feedback but I might be able to do without the click. I really should get a switch tester!

cbalcom03You sound like a prime candidate for some Topre goodness... Thing is, all cherry types are pretty similar because they are basically the same design. It's a linear switch that was retrofitted into providing some tactility and click. As such, it's not particularly good at either, its dominance seems mostly due to the cheapness of construction. But, hall effect make better linear switches, alps/Matias/buckling spring make better click switches, Topre make better tactile switches; cherry is a jack of all trades, master of none. If you want to try different feel on your keyboard, I recommend trying completely different designs, rather than just more of the "same same but different " cherry stuff. My 2c.
