Modified 96/97/98/99 layout with split spacebar. It’s basically a compact keyboard with all the keys found in a full sized keyboard but with a split spacebar. The left split spacebar key I assign either to toggle a terminal window that slides up from the bottom of the screen (quake style) or to trigger an application launcher so my hands rarely leave the keyboard. Single spacebars are a total waste of space. Also the plus (+) key on the numpad is split to gain an extra key for speed. The Mode key switches between keyboard layers/layouts and changes the back lit LED color depending on the layer/layout it’s in as a visual cue.The ESC and MODE keys are larger for ergonomics (so you have a tactical feel of where your fingers are without looking at the keyboard). The numpad has a slight gap between QWERTY keys (spatial separation for knowing where your hands are at). The keyboard would be fully programmable, be RGB back lit, have double shot PBT keycaps (back light can shine thru), hot swap switch mounts, Cherry MX switches, aluminum case, height adjustable, USB-C ports on top for wired connection and built in Bluetooth for wireless.

The Keycap profile would be curved like the Apple AEK. It feels really comfortable.

z3r0bitThe new Vortex Tab 90 and Tab 90M come close. They don't seem to have a split spacebar, but since other recent models support split space bar and are even available in a split space bar variant, I woulldn't be surprised if they support it, too, even if I haven't seen such a variant. They also refrained from continuing the sad 1.5u-Esc-and-Delete story of the Race 3. But I consider that to be a good thing, especially with finding fitting 3rd-party keycap sets. Nevertheless I prefer a cursor key cluster separate from the remaining blocks. And I prefer it to rather take some space from the big zero in the number block than so much space from the alphas/modifiers block. But otherwise I agree: Compact layout good for travelling, yet nearly-fullsize with all relevant keys.

XTaranYes, I was looking at the tab 90 and tab 90m but the split spacebar is a deal breaker for me! I set the left space key as a global hot key to trigger a terminal window to slide up/down (quake style) with iTerm from the bottom of the screen. The right space key behaves like a normal spacebar. Another alternative is to set the left space key to trigger the application launcher globally to open and switch between apps. This reduces having to mouse around, especially in heavy computer programming sessions. I also feel that bigger Esc, Mode, and 0 key size are essential so you can feel your way around the keyboard spatially and not get “lost”. It basically reduces glancing down on the keyboard for maximum speed.
