Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. And despite the PM-3 having a fair amount of Pad surface area on my ears (I owned one and so did my wife at one point), if I got the angle just right it had some of the best comfort of any closed headphone meant for on-the-go use I’ve owned. I don’t recall the headband being an issue for me, just the eventual heat build-up that seems inevitable with any earpad. Speaking more generally about ear pads, I haven’t really observed a company “solve” heat build-up yet, though fenestrations or hybrid pads have made a nice big advancement, and Dekoni has posted hints on social media about a variant of their upcoming Sony pads that has some new kind of way to deal with heat.
The one time I had enough money, I had to decide between buying the PM-2 and a Sennheiser HD 800, and I chose the HD 800. I definitely do not regret the decision, but ideally I wish I could have both, and I worry that they will all be gone by the time our household has more income than just enough to pay our expenses.
I'd agree about the comfort of the PM-3. I was referring to other users that have had the padding disintegrate. I think it happens mostly in hot, humid climates. Thankfully, this hasn't happened to my pair.
