LucasPMagnoSemi-open cans are a compromise between fully open and fully closed headphones. Usually this is done to achieve better bass response or to widen the soundstage. open cans usually have great mids and highs and flat bass. Sometimes they have just a little punch, though. Semi-open are going to punch a bit harder on the low end than a fully open can, and have slightly less soundstage/instrument separation than an open can as well. But compared to a closed can that is two positives because the soundstage will be wider and you get better separation. The negative compared to fully closed is that you lose the best benefit of a closed pair, which is sound isolation (but that's the only area closed wins). With semi-open you can still moderately hear your surroundings or sometimes quite clearly as it varies but I'd recommend semi or fully open headphones over any closed pair any day especially if you are using them at home or a quiet environment. In fact I sold all my closed pairs and own 3 semi open and 2 full open headphones right now. Also everything I talked about are just averages. There are headphones in each category that sound contradictory to how you'd think. There are plenty of experienced people around here though if you're looking for headphone recommendations. I can recommend headphones too but only those made by AKG, Sennheiser, Fostex, Audio Technica and some Hifimans (which are all the best companies anyway). Also I can try to explain why each type of can excels in each area if you want to understand more. Welcome to the audiophile world/disease though. Where all your extra money disappears.

LucasPMagnovery nice, you should enjoy them at entry level. They're supposedly pretty good in the treble and have flat bass. What genres do you listen to? I wouldn't quite recommend them for rock/electronic but I'm sure they'll be fine all-rounders.

UzuzuI listen to mainly pop I don't generally know the gender of the music I am listening to, lol Edit: it is not base heavy song to be more specific and can I hear the difference between an compressed (like MP3) and uncompressed (like FLAC) on an entry-level headphone such as the HE-350?

LucasPMagnoYou have to ask yourself the question and give an honest answer, how do I generally listen to music? The majority of people enjoy music while doing other things, work, working out, shopping, sitting on a plane, etc. If you told me that you are a dedicated music listener and do nothing but sit quietly and listen to music when you are listening to music, then spend the money on better equipment and record everything using a loss less format. Else, you probably won't notice what you are missing and might as well save the money. Get good, well build average equipment and enjoy all the additional cash in your bank account. The HE350's got very good reviews form Z Reviews on YouTube and I like him cause he does not use overly inflated language to describe what he is evaluating. Very straight forward reviews and he understands relative value. Clearly the HE 350s are not in the camp of the HE400i or the Fostex 900 or any of the higher end cans, but it all boils down to how you are going to use them and what is reasonable to pay given that philosophy of use. Sorry it wasn't a yes or no answer, but hope that helps.
