Why so secret?

more_vert
What is the official MAssdrop policy on why we cannot see the price on ended drops? Several times will see an item I got on MD and think "Did I get a good deal?" but I have to go back and check my previous orders. Worse, though, is when I see a good price in the wild for something I have scrolled past on MD previously and think. "Should I wait for that to come around on MD again?" It justs seems pointlessly obstructionist (not my first choice of words) to hide a price that was publicly displayed days before. How do I know if I want to "See this drop again" if I don't know what the price point or range (I would take a range too) is likely to be. Anyone else frustrated buy this? It isn't an advertised price in terms of manufacturer restrictions if it isn't currently offered.

Thanks everyone for posting here. I've been following the discussion, and prefer to give posts like this some time to hear the community's thoughts before I chime in.
The reason we remove the price is the same reason we make you register and log in with an email address: it's the only way most manufacturers will work with us offering a discount for in-line products (not end-of-line, aka closeout). Our partner companies want the price to be only visible at the time of the drop. Even then, they don't want the price to spread beyond our site, either through us advertising or through things like Amazon price scanning programs. Most companies have very strict sales/advertising policies, and so we've built our site to work within those policies to keep them happy and to be able to offer you excellent prices year round!

DannyMilksThanks for adding to the discussion. If that is the way it has to be, so be it. I think, like many here, I see plenty of things that I can't purchase now but star so I can look at it again. I recently purchased one of the Traveller guitars. I might have waited for it to come around again if I could have seen waht it was recently offered at, but instead, I made the Amazon purchase because I didn't have the information. All things being equal, or even within a few bucks, on items I don't need right away I have gone with MD because I like the community. It just means that I have to keep better notes. Hmm, since, as you said, I need to log in, maybe starring the item should create an interest sheet that only I can see?

G-Deuce@G-Deuce - thanks for the reply. Appreciate your faith in the community!
Yeah, actually, that sounds like a pretty good feature - the ability to see all the drops you've requested. Kind of like a wish list. I'll pass this on to our development team to see what they think. Thanks!

Ditto, would like to see the prices on the expired drop so I know what to expect if I want to request a new drop of the product. Also to compare with other shops...

There's no guarantee that the same price can be available for the next drop. To the rational person this is just an artifact of inflation and not really within Massdrop's control and should be used as a mere reference to get a ballpark idea for the next drop's price. I've given up on the belief that there are rational people on the internet though.
Can you even imagine the bitching that would ensue an obvious price increase?

HeeftyThat's why I added the range comment above. As for the bitching It never fails that someone feels the price is not low enough or wants to point out a competing vendor. I don't think it would increase too much.

Being new to MD myself I was looking through some that just ended that I would have been interested in, and did not see the prices.
