Automatic chronograph project watch

more_vert
Here's my automatic chronograph built from parts.
search
The case is made of treated titanium and the glass is sapphire. The case has a diameter of 41 mm and a height of 14 mm.

Inside is an ETA/Valjoux 7750 cam & lever style automatic chronograph movement. I opened the case today in order to apply some silicone grease to the crown and back gasket. It's been raining lately so I wanted to help make it a bit more waterproof and thought it was a good opportunity to take some pictures.

The back features a display caseback.

The movement runs good :) I plan to service the movement myself if it ever needs to be serviced (complete dissasembly, cleaning, oiling and re-assembly).
Total cost of parts in USD:
$390 - ETA/Valjou 7750 elabore. I bought mine from Ofrei, an American jeweller.
$220 - Case, dial and hands. I bought as a set from Duplain Horlogerie, a watch part supplier from Switzerland.

I just wanted to comment to say thank you, your post inspired me to assemble my own watch based on a Valjoux 7750!

Justaway"Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the technology. We have the capability to make the world's first bionic automatic project watch. Justaway's watch will be that watch. Better than it was before. Better...stronger...faster!"

Perfect dimensions and perfect movement for the piece. You should be very proud of your accomplishment. I’d buy one, that’s for sure!
AWESOME! Superb taste. And on your first try, too! Thanks for sharing!
This is awesome, thanks for sharing your project!
What inspired you to to make one for yourself? Was it an evolution of your hobby or did you just jump right in to creating your own time piece?

Vintage1982BenzI basically jumped right into it. I knew I wanted an automatic chronograph so I did some research and found that I needed a ETA 7750. The original case I used was too thick for its diameter and I eventually replaced it with the current case. This is the only watch I've made so far but I hope to make more in the future since by now I'm pretty good at setting hands. I want to make a Unitas movement watch next.

almost 400 for elabore grade 7750 for a solo project, cheaper than I thought.

Hi, I’m new to this site, still figuring out how everything works.
Did you just make one watch. This piece really coo. Or do you plan on making additional units?

AlehaI only made one for myself. It probably wouldn't be hard for Massdrop to make their own watch using Duplain parts though. I would love to see a Massdrop branded watch one day.

JustawayI'd be really cool, but you'd have to wait three months for the date to change and then every other week, they'd cancel Fridays.
