I'm into the snowshoes that my family and friends build; we're First Nations Peoples who have lived by the snowshoe forEVER. I have some "technical" snowshoes;

I prefer ours for all things backpacking and recreational;

We make them in different styles for different kinds of use. The natural materials tend to perform better, overall, in my experience than do the technical material 'shoes.
That being said; they also require more work to maintain. Like the first "natural" pair I imaged up there needs new leathers,(being replaced even now), and those "roundies" will need a few more layers of wax and varnish before I am satisfied with them.
Nothing better than snow-shoe-ing as a winter sport, IMO. Sailing over the snow on a still and crisp blue day just beats all. Following the deer on 'shoes that take you where other gear can't is the BEST!
Cheers, and Happy New Year! Here's to MUCH snow!
