Redundancy In Your Collection

more_vert
I'm facing a collector's dilemma. I have a watch that I love, but I never wear it. It isn't anything precious, I didn't spend time hunting for it or anything - I just have another watch that I reach for each and every time. Do I sell it? I could probably recoup a few hundred dollars, it is a desirable piece and well liked by enthusiasts.
I find myself forcing it in to wrist time, and I like it each and every time I wear it, but I never reach for it with the other options that are available.
That's a good sign I should sell...right?

I just sold two of my watches that didn't have enough wrist time... I loved those watches, but i just never wore them... better to sell them to someone who can appriciate and wear them, than to leave them sitting in the watchbox in my oppinion... If the time comes, you can propably aqquire them again..

If you don't wear it and are thinking of selling it, I believe you answered your own question. Sell it If it is a collector's item that has a better then good chance of appreciating in value then I would consider holding on to it

Here is my opinion; Will you miss it? (Yes = Keep, No = Sell) Do you like it? (Yes = Keep, No = Sell) Do you need the money? (Yes = Sell, No = Keep) The best 2 out of 3 is your answer. Good luck!
stoutdogWhile this rubric is objectively sound, I don't think I would ever sell anything if I abided by it!

So - guess which one I am thinking of selling.

A little of column A, a little of column B!
I have really been obsessed with the Tudor Black Bay recently with the blue face (36 or 41 mm still TBD) once I saw one at a dealer and tried it on.
I also want to start saving for one of the new 9F Grand Seiko GMT releases...
Plus I still need my Speedy!
Thank you, sir, as you well know it is half the fun!

Ok i will ask? What watch are you talking about?
ErikespThe Hamilton. Interested? I know you're a trusty buyer.
I keep number limits on my collections of place-name-of-collectible-here. I only trim my collection when I want items not in it more than what I already own. In other words: if you still have room to expand your collection, don't bother with cases like this, only get rid of the watches you dislike. If you are running out of room, however, the watch you have in mind should make the short list of things to sell.
TherocThis is generally the way I think, but I also know that this one will just sit and go unused. Part of me is thinking I should just recoup as much of my investment as I can while the demand is there and move on.

Sell sell sell!
And while you're at it: anything you haven't worn in the last year, sell / donate.
:)

TherocHa! I am here to play the role of the brutally honest minimalist. Will have to chat to some exceptionally caring doctors to learn the bedside manners piece.

I think the key question to ask is, will you regret it down the road?
You may if it is impossible or difficult to replace. For example, if you have special memories with it, or if it is a model that is difficult to come by.
I know that specific type of dilemma. There are designs where you can't have enough examples of in your collection, and there are others where one representative will suffice.

Ok then sell!
I absolve you of responsibility. If for some reason you regret it down the road, you can just blame some stranger on the internet!
