Colorado 14er “Bucket List Accomplishment”

more_vert
I was lucky enough to get to join a group 14er outing put together by Feral Mountain Company in Arvada, CO and Mountain Hardwear. The day before our hike it was 70*. We camped at the Mt. Elbert trail head, base camp and the temps dropped into the lower 20’s. It was one cold night and an even colder morning. Yes, it was a slow start. But...Wow! What an amazing 14er hike it was. I’m 58 yrs. old and wanting to summit a 14er had been on my “bucket list” for wayyy too long. On this day, 9/18/2016, I was kicking it hard and successfully summited Mt. Elbert, Colorado’s highest peak, elevation 14,439. It was a beautiful day. The scenery was indescribable. It was hard to focus on summiting because everything around me (besides the altitude) was so breathtaking. I also met so many good people along the way. In 2019 I will hopefully get the opportunity to summit another 14er. So exhilarating!! And...the icing on the summit...I was hiking with my son.
