So I did this for my wife. Had to get her in on my knife addiction. I think it's working she was really into the ano and the process of it. To be honest she did most of the work on this knife, I broke my hand and can barely dress myself so I got my better half to do the work on this.

this is her knife and she wanted it purple but once it was all purple she and I didn't like the look so we gradually increased the voltage while pulling the scale out of the bath. Nothing fancy but not bad for a one handed gimp and a rookie.imo

Gunnersmate2Yeah, I'm glad it was you and not me lol Just the fade looks good, i would likely have gone overboard trying to do different colors on all the different sections lol

KavikI was thinking that as well. But didn't voice it to her. I wanted this to be a positive experience. I'm trying to keep funding for my knife " hobby" (addiction or sickness)

Gunnersmate2I hope that didn't come out wrong, I meant that to be a compliment. I think where you ended with it came out real nice
So as long as she had fun, she definitely made something that looks good, i'd say positive all around 👍
I gotta get the gf in on this, so I have a second set of hands to coordinate turning the dial and pulling out the piece

KavikAs long as she is happy and likes it then I'm great with it. I will eventually talk her into stripping it and doing something different. For me personally, the rainbow fade is not my most favorite but it was easy and most importantly Jess likes it and enjoyed her first experience with the process and had a positive outcome.

DougFLA123True. She is my better half and would be lost without her. I almost feel bad trying to spread my sickness to her but I've realized that my obsession with knives is real and never ending so I kinda need her into it as well. LOL

Gunnersmate2There’s nothing better than sharing a hobby with a gf or a wife...because then they understand! 😀 Have you ever watched BirdShot IV knife review videos? There’s a couple who share a love of knives!

OmniseedThank you. IMO It is very satisfying to put your mark on them. To me modifying my knives makes them more mine. Idk if that makes sense but I'm guessing you know what I'm trying to say.

DougFLA123I will I just need to be careful because if she wants to see it for herself and I show her these posts and she reads mine the cat will be out and my knives will be used on me. Lol. Did you get the perpetua knife?

Gunnersmate2I did get the Perpetua and was disappointed. Mine came super tight, so you could not pull down on the axis lock and fling it open, and you could not pull down on the axis lock and fling it closed. Let’s face it, the coolest thing about the axis lock is flinging it open and closed. If you loosened the pivot a little bit, to free up the action, it introduces blade play. So, there is no perfect spot...you either pick super tight, terrible action and no blade play, or loose enough to flick open and closed and some blade play. It also has the cheapest pocket clip I have ever seen! Put it in your pocket a couple of times and it will stay permanently bent open, like it’s made of cheap tin or something. Other people have badly corroded/pitted blade steel, broken omega springs (the omega spring makes the axis lock work), missing omega springs, broken torx screws when trying to remove the pocket clip, bent liners, poor centering, the list goes on and on if you read the threads...other than that it’s a great knife! : ). One guy said that he used it on a couple of boxes and the blade folded over. I think that means that the edge rolled over to one side (not really sure...I’ve never heard that expression). He said he was going to resharpen it and see if it “folds over” again. Not to mention this knife was delivered three months late. Millit Knives was in way over there heads. I was really pissed and let Millet Knives know how I felt. I submitted a return ticket to Massdrop over a week ago and haven’t heard back from them yet! I don’t know if they’re so backed up from all of the Perpetua issues but I’m concerned that they havent responded to me in over a week. This is my first bad experience with Massdrop and one of their collaborations. I hope they take care of this. I’m starting to wonder.

DougFLA123There was also a huge issue (to me) with the Terzuola. Jonas send the wrong paper work to WE Knife and the wrong logo was lasered onto the blade. Also the hardware was supposed to be a bright polished anodized titanium, instead it was dark dull beat up looking antique bronze looking hardware.
Note the hardware. This was advertised:

I really wanted the designers name... Terzuola, on the blade. So, we ended up getting a big dragon head and no designer name lasered on the blade, instead of what was advertised which was a little dragon head and the designers name above it. Not a big deal to some, but to me it is a big deal. They did refund us all $20 for the two mistakes. This is the second collaboration/drop in a row that has been a big mess! It’s really making me rethink my participation in these collaborations anymore. ☹️

DougFLA123That sucks. I'm sure the customer service will refund or replace your knife. I saw they re dropped the perpetua and like the look but read all the issues with it so I think I will wait until a new batch comes in and see if the issues are resolved. I think the manufacturer was in over their heads and rushed everything. The whole process is flawed in my opinion with how massdrop brings some of these collaborations to us. Especially with the smaller knife manufacturers like Millet. I would rather be told it's going take a year to produce and have it done right then have what happened with the perpetua drop. Slower is sometimes faster.

Gunnersmate2Exactly! Take a year and do it right! I’m with you all the way. I think I’ll just do the collaborations that use WE and Reate to manufacture the knives from now on. WE did a great job with the Terzuola, they were just handed the wrong logo and hardware information. Mechanically it’s perfect, it just doesn’t look the way it was advertised.

DougFLA123Agreed. I'm sure the perpetua would be a great knife if they took the time. I've handled a Millet made knife before (I can't remember which one or where) but remember it being a very stout, highly detailed well made knife. I made a mental note of Millet knives so I would get one if the opportunity ever came. To produce 1000 knives in 3 months is a tall order for any shop but with an 8 or 10 man shop like Millet it's an impossible task, obviously

KavikI know, I know. 😬 I’ve honestly been feeling bad the whole time. You start out with a tiny, little off topic comment and it turns into a huge conversation, and then everyone on the thread gets notifications on things they don’t care about. 😧. Really sorry about that!
Now, where can I ask you if you’ve ever drilled out a detent ball hole to fix a weak detent? The @ sign doesn’t work for me, so I have to ask in some previously started thread. There’s almost nothing I hate more than a weak detent. I also hate it when I can’t center a blade!

Gunnersmate2Oh for sure, for me the period between receiving a new knife and the day I pull out the pivot, bathe it in oil, swab it clean, and then thread lock the pivot is an introductory period. If I don't like I try to figure that out and sell it without adding thread locker or anything to it.
My favorite knives feel substantially smoother and 'better' after the spa day. The Crux and Gent are like that, and Kizer knives are usually like that too. I like the process of getting to know them and seeing the improvement from my attentions.
It makes me wonder how many people who have generic complaints about their knives just don't own a good set of drivers and a bottle of thread locker.

DougFLA123Lol no worries,, just giving you guys a hard time
I haven't drilled out a hole though. So far ever knife I've had has a big enough hole for the ball. My issues have only been with alignment, and the only one I've fixed was for by filing the stop pin instead of moving the detent hole
In theory, it would only help if the ball was bigger than the hole, and so doesn't drop all the way in, or if the hole needs to be moved forward, but then you have to be careful of introducing blade play when closed
