In case you didn't know.. You can collect badges by becoming a Junior Ranger at National Parks. My wife and I do this at every one we go to now. Great fun. You take an oath and everything.

We recently got the Pinnacles and Cave Scientist ones just last weekend. We jokingly asked the (actual) park ranger if any other people like us did this very often and she said she had a man come in the week before who was 93 years old!

As a NPS Ranger I have had the opportunity to issue many Junior Ranger Badges in places like Glacier Bay National Park, Big Cypress National Preserve, and Everglades National Park!

Most of my Junior Rangers were 12 and under, but I did have a few slightly older Junior Rangers who passed my rigid test criteria! LOL
MsilverhammerThanks for what you do! I'd love to hear more about the experiences you've had as a ranger!

livingspeedbumpIn one of my positions I worked as a Wilderness Patrol Ranger in SE Alaska.
Sometimes I would patrol coastal wilderness areas alone, and while on foot, and sometimes my partner and I would patrol wilderness coastal areas, and large inlets by Kayak, and on foot.
We would usually paddle about ten miles per day, and make camp each night in a different area.
Our main focus was to assist and protect any visitors who might become lost, or who experienced some type of distress, such as medical emergencies. or negative encounters with wildlife, or other visitors.
We would also patrol for illegal hunting, or poaching, and to document any other negative impacts upon the wilderness areas.
The Alaskan wilderness is very beautiful and majestic, but can be dangerous, and even deadly.

Is there a cost/fee ($) to get one? Or is it just a book as you said?

ManbearNice! You can basically go to the 'Info' booth of any park, talk to a ranger, and they'll give you an activity book. Usually best to get it before you go on your hike/excursion. Excited for you to get your first one!
