Why aren't there many budget friendly mech keyboards?

more_vert
All of the mechanical keyboards that people always recommend cost from $150 to $250 dollars, but why?

Fake news. Used to be true but now you can always get one for $40-50.

There are a lot of budget mech boards. Amazon has several of them from $30 to $60. There is a Redragon K552 for $30.
If you're question is why Massdrop doesn't focus on budget boards, I suspect that the margins on budget boards are so slim that Massdrop won't be able to add deliver any value. Just get them on Amazon.
If you're question is why the mech community doesn't focus on budget models, it's cause hobbyist's are willing to spend more and focus on certain qualities that budget boards don't deliver. The more expensive something is, the easier it is to find reviews and recommendations because we want to make sure we get the value we want for the price we are willing to pay.
If someone asked me for a hamburger recommendation, I wouldn't recommend a Mcdonald's McDouble for under $2. I would probably point them to a burger joint where burgers are $10. If they counter with the best burger closest to $1, I really wouldn't have an opinion.

My take: because more expensive materials and parts are used than in mass-market boards, coupled with a collectors' kind of mentality where many buyers are willing to spend more because it's a hobby for them. Also, especially here, certain boards are only available for a short time and in limited quantity (supply and demand rules kick in).

iKBC makes a few budget-friendly models, with excellent build quality for the price. Their doubleshot PBT caps are also pretty good for $35 or so.

Ever since Cherry lost their patent the market has been flooded with pretty excellent clones. Look around on Amazon, you should find some good stuff in the 30-60 dollar range.

Because keyboard addiction is easy and we like to go all out when it comes to addictions.
naverlandsIt's a hobby. Not an addiction ;)

Look at the Anne pro, magicforce 68. If it has a plastic case. It will most likely be fairly cheap
