As someone who owns the Instax 8 I can thoroughly recommend it for people looking for instant photography. Cost of each photo runs a bit but it is the cheapest you can get without going the impossible project route.
I cannot recommend the Polaroid as they no longer make true instant chemical films and it's simply a digital camera with an attached ink printer. Fujifilm owns all the machinery from polaroid downfall and information as per their mutual trade of Information /patents
(below are photos I took while visiting my girlfriend in Canada when we came across a car show off the parking lot of the book store we were headed to. These were the pictures 15 minutes in the coffee shop attacheD. The pictures and film were unaffected by airport xrays on the flight back to Australia just for further assistance)
