I have a fondness for all things olight. But my experience with them I3 series goes back to when they were thr ITP branded. I still have some of those and the newer I3S. Perfect mode pacing w/3 modes. Very small and light weight pefect keychain light or deep pocket carry. Twisty head is simple and reliable, and wont accidently turn on in your pocket. The "E" is nice but only 1 bright mode, it is even msaller thoug and simpler with only on or off. Still a great back up edc light.
For what it's worth, I own three Anker Bolder LC40s. They are as bright as you ever NEED them to be. Anything brighter and you're just showing off, if I'm being perfectly honest. Even the low setting is incredibly bright. It's got three basic modes; high, low, and strobe. Best thing is that it only takes three AAA batteries to power for months in my case. I keep it on my climbing screwgate carabiner. It disappears in my pants pocket and I'd never notice it. :)
Anker Bolder LC40 = Bright, tough, cheap, reliable, and amazingly portable. good build quality from a reputable company. Even without a drop, you can pick up some new ones cheap online. It's my everyday driver.
Half of these lights are not even AAA lights as the title describes...
My favorite is the Four Sevens Preon P1. It fits in my Leatherman Wave holster and has three intensity settings.
They still sell Incandescent Maglites?
I have one of the AAA solitaires from my boy scout days... put a fresh battery and bulb in it, woo who it works! The color is really warm, to the point where it loses as much accuracy as a really cool LED, and the light is pretty dim even if you focus to the narrowest point of light. Only good for reading books for a few nights, walking to the bathroom, and burning through batteries!
I recommend the much more versatile lights from Manker, the Olight i3s, ThruNite AAA (I forget the name), Lumintop Worm or Tool lights... watch-cell thumb lights... almost any LED flashlight will have longer practical battery life and brightness.
I don't know the surefire well, because they just seemed expensive.
