Was not sure how to add another alternative but the Sabered Insider Bear Safe is another alternative that should be considered. Its a tall skinny rigid canister that fits inside your pack next to your back. You pack around it. I do not live in a Grizzly Bear area but in an area loaded with black bear. Have used an Ursack with a smell proof liner for years without issue and can recommend it highly. Its light, convenient and will hold enough food for two for a 10 day outing. Recently I have purchased the Insider Bear Safe ($79) because a rigid bear cannister is now required for hiking in the Smokies and in some areas of SC and GA through the month of June. I am not exactly an ultra-light backpacker but am able to make do with a 58 liter backpack (with floating top) and hit the trail for 3-4 days at a time with 3 L water and a trail weight of 32-34 lbs despite the added weight of the rigid bear cannister. It fits in the outside kangaroo pouch on my pack as well and could be cinched in tightly to anchor it more closely to my back if needed for winter backpacks when heavier sleeping bags and heavier clothing put interior pack space at a premium. Glad to hear that Ursacks are now IGBC certified. May end up using it with the bear cannister anyhow simply because cookwear and toiletries need to be stored away from tents too and cannisters are not well suited to accomodate those items.
