E5's are the best. Very present and silky midrange. The Vanatoo's similar frequency response, but with more low end. LSR and KRK have very gritty upper mids and are quite fatiguing. I have no clue about the edifier.

And the E5's are even better than the new E5xt's Presonus just released. With a matched sub their sound is on par with +$1000 focal monitors I'd say.

What about the edifier S350DB instead? All small desktop speakers suffer from one thing and that is the lack of defining bass, these S350DB come with a subwoofer fixing that problem and they are normally $300

I've owned the S2000 PRO's for 4 months, and they aren't missing any bass impact. They can shake a room, though they won't have the sub-bass rumble a subwoofer supplies. They handle EDM (Deadmau5, some Wintergatan tunes, Daft Punk, Infected Mushroom) just fine. Don't regret spending a dollar for them. I've owned Martin Logan, Kef, Wharfedale, Klipsch... these are the most satisfying speakers I've ever had. Edit: I made custom stands for them, and have them about 1/3 out into the room, with my seat 1/3 away from the back wall. They are equidistant from each other and from me... they have a soundstage that stretch beyond the edges of the speakers by a good margin. Imaging is tight, timber is spot on. There isn't much depth to the soundstage, but again, they're ±$400. I got them on sale for $340, totally worth it.
