I use the Leuchtturm A5 size notebook with a Lamy safari medium nib filled with Lamy blue ink. There is no bleed through or feathering and very little ghosting. I am quite happy with the notebook.
I had the same issue with Shinola. $20 wasted for me, but I did turn a friend on to nice notebooks.
Have had a lot of problem with Shinola. Quality is not there, and their customer service people have told me repeatedly that they do not recommend their customers use fountain pens with their journals. I have a hundred plus dollar investment which is worthless to me because the paper is really bad. Total feathering and bleed through,
