My personal favorites are the KRK Rokit 8s since they provide a great mixing experience for bedroom artists to professionals! Keep in mind that with the Yamaha Hs8 you WILL need a sub. The Hs8s do not carry the same low end as the Rokits or Genelecs.
There is definitely not a WILL need for a sub, unless you are mixing very bassy music such as EDM maybe.
The low end on the Hs8's is pretty damn good from my previous experience.
I just can't trust the low end on the Rockit's, it has never translated well for me nearly as well as the Hs8's.
If you mix any type of Rock, Electronic, or Piano then you will need a sub. The
KRKs are inaccurate but they're a lot less expensive.
I guess we have to agree to disagree here as I have never needed a sub myself with the hs8's (and in general to be fair, I don't like using them when mixing).
I could never use or want to use a monitor that I don't trust the accuracy of, which for me the Rockits definitely fall in that category.
It's always interesting having and reading these discussions though, it really highlights that every producer, mixing engineer and even just an enthusiast has a completely different opinion of a product and what they need etc.
It does make me worried about monitors on a site like this, the only way to know a good monitor you will work well with is hearing reference tracks on them in person at the very least.
Very true. But for the people who don't have the money for HS8s then Rokit 8s are awesome. But if you have the money then buy something better. However a lot of producers I've worked with don't get subs with the HS8s and just wait and pair them with larger 3way monitors instead of a sub. Ultimately its just how much money am I willing to put into my studio and what can I get with that.
