From what I've heard, from people actually having used them extensively, the Skinners socks pretty much don't breathe at all. Not sure if that's what I'd need when in camp. That's supposed to be the one place where your feet finally get to breathe a little.
are skinners worth $60? look like socks coated with ground up tires.
Bought a pair of Croc knock-offs at Walmart for $10 about 3 years ago. Lightweight, durable, super comfy!
My camp shoes are a pair of bright red Crocs. They're amazing. Light, shockingly durable, and clip easily onto the outside of a backpack. They're secure enough for ill-advised deep river crossings and gentle enough for your gnarly swollen feet at the end of a 30 mile day. They dry quickly, won't freeze solid overnight, and don't suck to put on when they're wet. More importantly they're the height of modern fashion.
The Bedrock Cairns may be nice shoes but I don't think they belong on a UL list. At 8.5 oz each, they're heavier than most of my road running shoes. My Saucony Kinvaras weigh 8 oz each.
I have a pair of skinners, they suck
I've heard nonslip surgical slippers work well - has anyone here tried that? I can only find very large packages (e.g., 50 pairs), so I've been putting off trying it.
Xero makes a DIY sandal kit. Much lighter than the other Xero option on the list. Easy to make and comfortable.
I wear the Bedrock Cairns not only as my camp footwear, not only as my outdoors footwear, but as my everyday casual footwear also. I never wear anything else. Even if they don't drop, get them some way, some how.
I’ve got a pair of skinners! The most rugged pair of “socks” you could own! My only gripe is that they’re a little loose—with the stretchiness of the material, I definitely could have sized down. Also, they take a while to dry out (like a thick pair of socks) and can have the sloshiness that traditional water shoes have unless you drain them by kicking or slipping them off for a good wring. On dry land, they‘re both breathable and warm, plus ultra packable!

in my experience of using them as gym socks -- they are not breathable enough and my lag sweats. perhaps they were not meant to be used in this way though. I haven't tried them outside yet
Hoping that Massdrop would offer Skinners. :)
