So hard to find a proper knife... Can anyone help me figuring out what model I need? I've tried different kinds throughout my life: fixed blade, folders with nail-nick, manual folders with thumb stud, butterfly knifes, spring-loaded, speed-assisted, with liner lock, with back-lock, with no lock, etc... Finally I found a cheap knife that served me as EDC for last 8 years, and it's time to get something new. One I use now is Walther Messer Silver Tac - thumb stud assisted opener with liner lock and 440SS 3.1¨ blade. It did cost me about €30 ($32), and it is the reference knife I will compare new knife to. 1. Blade should be around 4 inch long - Walther STK is 3.1¨, and it feels kinda short. I'd guess 4¨ would be optimal, since my arms are not small either. 2. I really like assisted knifes, especially compared to flippers, but I have unusual reason for that. Safety. It is more difficult to initiate opening on an assisted knife, and it doesn't usually open by accident. I can drop my Walther STK ten times in a row from a full human height, it will never open. The spring, that assists opening, also holds blade under tension in closed position. It, actually, takes some time to get used to opening assisted knife, you must apply specific amount of force to a thumb stud at a specific angle, and it can't happen by accident. Also, safety while closing. Liner lock and frame lock knifes are closed by unlocking blade while having your fingers in a way blades go into frame. If blade is heavy enough, and it starts swinging down after you unlock it - blade might hit a finger that was pushing liner/frame lock. Assisted knife will have a spring that typically starts to be be compressed half-way in of the blade pivot angle into the frame. It will slow down or completely stop blade from hitting your fingers. 3. Lock should be liner or frame type. I want to be able to open and close my EDC using only one hand, without changing grip a lot. 4. Not serrated blade. I simply do not have a use for a serrated blade in my EDC, and I'd prefer not to give up a cutting edge for a serration. 5. Handle material is not that important, but I definitely would prefer one of these: Micarta, G10, carbon fiber, or titanium. 6. I do not care much about deep-carry. It might stick out, unless it looks really aggressive. 7. Thumb stud and thumb disc are preferred, since I don't really like spyderco-style large thumb-holes, but strictly speaking it\s not a showstopper. If every other criteria is met, and thumb-hole is the only available option. 8. Thumb rise and guard should be distinctive, and thumb rise should have jimping for better grip. 9. Blade material - I am not particularly unhappy with 440SS, but I want to try something much better. CPM S110V, ZDP-189 or some similar type of blade metal is what I am looking for. I did consider S35VN or S90V as an option, but usually those blades already fall into price category of S110V and up, therefore I don't see a point compromising here. 10. Price should be in a range of €200. If only available options costs €400 - I would periodically search through sales to get it on a discount.
I know I am being extremely picky, especially taking into consideration my price expectation, but I believe that so many knife models are out there - there must be one for me.
Thanks in advance!

FokkerFaceThere is alot of of good knives out there. For the longest time the end all edc knives before going to custom prices were hinderer xm18, chris reeve sebenzas, and striders. These are still held to high regard and even though you can get slight discounts from buying one used, they hold there value very well. Besides from that actually now is a golden era in great midtechs. One popping up in my mind is I have been meaning to try out is a tad dauntless which is alittle bit cheaper than the ones I mentioned.
But in the price range you mentioned none of these will be available. So either save up or start out with a relatively inexpensive blade. Some I recommend is spyderco paramilitary 2, benchmade osborn 943 and several of the zero tolarance ones. Now if you are looking for a assisted knives kershaw has a bunch of those- I actually have a bnib blur let me know if you are interested
