Titanium Nitride coating is extremely hard. Sewing machine needles are usually chrome or nickel plated. When the needle comes in contact with the hook, which occurs often due to needle deflection, the needle usually accepts the damage and can then be easily changed. In the case of titanium the hook will most likely become burred and will need to be repaired or replaced at a much higher expense than replacing a needle. Word to the wise.
