The Black Diamond Storm is my favorite headlamp I've ever used. It has spot, flood and red light settings, adjustable brightness for each, and it maintains the brightness setting after turning it off. By holding down the on/off button, you can ensure the red light turns on without having to flash through white light, which is excellent for tactical purposes.

hairylugs82I used a BD Storm for ~2Y. Even with care, it broke. Cheap platic quality. All the moving parts broke (opening to replace batteries and when you move it up/downward ). Appart from this, i do agree with what you said
