Guys please don't vote for the ASUS AC68u (ac1900). It used to support aimesh but now it just gets reset to the factory Tmobile firmware. Can anyone confirm for me if the actual ASUS AC68U (not the t-mobile version) still has aimesh capabilities with MerlinWRT firmware? Or has the latest ASUS update killed that
Ha! Or just ask T-Mobile for a free ASUS RT-AC68U. Well I suppose you're just borrowing it, but same difference.

Big difference: T-Mobile rarely if ever updates the thing.

You can always flash the T-Mobile TM-AC1900 over to an ASUS RT-AC68U ROM to stay current with ASUS. Or DD-WRT has a v24.SP2 beta build for it as well. However, even in stock form, they're not *far* off. Current (non-beta): ASUS: 3.0.0.4.380.1842 T-Mobile: 3.0.0.4.376.3108 Older, yes, but ... ehh. Unless there's a specific update you need.
The WRT1900AC is a beast, I installed two of em in the office I work in. For a consumer grade router these things are top-notch. Excellent hardware. Powerful and easily-configurable asus-wrt software which supports dd-wrt as well. Can do load-balancing well, unlike most consumer routers, which makes it suitable for small-medium businesses too.
I already own an ASUS N66U and have had a ton of issues with firmware and 5Ghz stability. Had better success with using Merlin's version of the firmware than ASUS'. That WRT1900 is a beast ..
Are any of these compatible with OpenWRT? It seems like the WRT1900AC is supposed to be, but wireless driver issues are preventing it for now. Does anyone have additional info?
