Totally agree! It's one of the most under-rated workhorse pen out there! I've given away quite a few to colleagues to get them hooked on fountain pens!

Just checked my email because I haven't gotten any email updates as promised from massdrop. If I hadn't clicked on "join the discussion" I wouldn't have know any of this - why aren't emails being sent as you stated? The last email I had was March 22 saying an update email would be out at the end of the day 4/1. Pretty disappointing first experience with massdrop.

I know champwin - I totally understand that stuff happens - what disappoints me most is that we are promised updates and they're not sent. So, bad news? Ok, fine. Don't make us go searching for the answers. I took it on good faith that when I didn't get an update, it was all moving along like it should. Looked at today's date and was like, hmmmm, should have seen an update or a shipping notice. None of this information about certain colors not shipping, etc was sent in any email. Last email update I received was March 22 - and there has been info here since before then. Why not do the right thing and send the updates when they said they would? Also, I've seen a few post HERE that promised updates and I don't see those updates. So....while things happen, manufacturerers can't keep up etc....don't make it worse for your customers by not providing the information when they said they would.

Hi all,
Unfortunately, there have been some recent developments that will prevent us from offering Pilot's Metropolitan line again in the future. Please note that this may very well be the last time that the Metropolitan fountain pens will be dropped.
Regretfully, this comes directly from Pilot, and from pretty high up on the food chain. We will be able to honor all of the sales in this drop that is live right now, but we will not be offering Metropolitan pens (Retro Pop, Animal, or Classic styles) again in the foreseeable future. (So if you're on the fence about joining this drop, now is the time!)
We're working on keeping a dialog with Pilot open right now, and we'll do everything we can to change the minds of the decision-makers at Pilot. We definitely want to make sure they know how much our community cares about their products, and also how many MD members we've been able to expose to the awesomeness that is fountain pens by starting off with one of these great Metropolitans.

LizWill this affect ALL Pilot branded merchandise, or just the Metropolitan line?

raji@raji, as of now, this new policy only affects the Metropolitan line, though we have not been able to bring back any of the higher-end Namiki products due to the same restrictions. We're still able to offer items like the G-Tec-C pens, G2s, and Parallel pens.

Will Massdrop actually be able to get the 809 pens that have been ordered so far? Usually there are limits on drops, but this seems to keep increasing. Is it feasible?

Such a shame that those types of pens don't work for left-handed :( (Those tips are made to write from left to right, or else they tear the paper/no ink comer out)

PellegriniI'm left handed. This is one of my favorite, smooth writing pens. Maybe you got a bad one?

Oh I think I see the problem now. I'm left handed as well and I have found that though I must push hard to write with most other types of pens, fountain pens require no pressure - the weight of the pen itself is enough to cause the ink to flow onto the page with capillary action. I have included pictures of myself writing with a Metropolitan to show how I do it - I do turn the pen a certain way for the flow to work, but I write normally. It's incredibly smooth and fun to write with.

I just got notification of this drop but all the medium tips were already out of stock? Maybe next time plan on medium being more popular and offering more of those? I won't be joining the drop because of this. I hope you run this drop again soon.

Great news group! The vendor has let us know that the group's order was picked up and is on its way to our warehouse now. Based on the tracking provided these are scheduled to come in 11/17. Our warehouse team has been forwarded tracking info and will be standing by, ready to get these packed up and turned around as soon as they come in.
Sometimes shipments get delayed en route, not to worry as we will keep the group posted throughout the process and notify you all if anything causes delay.
Thanks for your patience and expect an update from us on 11/18 or sooner if something comes up.

Hi all,
I just wanted to update everyone on the Pilot Metropolitan situation. The good news is that we will be able to offer the Classic and Animal lines still. The bad news is that we still cannot offer the newer Retro Pop styles, but hopefully we will be able to bring those back sometime next year once they've been out for a while. Progress!
Thanks. :)

Gonzo notes:
Massdrop, in the first paragraph of the description it reads, "...standard cartridges..." Would someone be able to change that to standard Pilot cartridges? As it reads right now, some may think you mean standard international cartridges which do not fit into the American Metropolitan. This is just a minor, confusing phrase I found in first paragraph.
But the pen lives up to the hype, IMO. It's a great workhorse that writes well posted or not. Even for Pilot nibs, these tend to run narrow. Other Pilot pens with compatible nibs (easy to exchange) include: Plumix (stub), Penmanship (extra fine), Prera (I think), Kakuno (smiley face), 78g (discontinued but still widely available). If you want one as a medium and one as a fine, don't be afraid crossing nib and pen color. Very easy to swap nibs between pens.
Other points to note: cap-off dry time seems longer on these than many others, especially at similar price, standard squeeze converter is quite usable and holds up to 0.9ml of ink/fill.
If you go through some of my older posts I copied and pasted a writing sample using some of these alternative nibs into a post on p. 1. Otherwise, the Nib Nook at gouletpens.com is an excellent resource.
Full cleaning with bulb-syringe (in most ear-wax kits) takes less than 5 minutes. I keep the same colors in mine, use each daily and clean them out once every 2-4 refills depending on ink and time since last cleaning.
Yes, the fine nib is scratchier than the medium, but first check nib alignment if you feel it's too scratchy out of the box.
This is one of Massdrop's most popular offerings so shipping is fairly routine and they want to make sure you get what you ordered. Yes, you might be able to find individual pens with specific colors/nib sizes on Amazon for less but not this with broad of a selection offered at this price in one fell swoop.
That said, I'm not a huge fan of these pens. I only have 6 and use them multiple times per day. ;-)
This is a common "first purchase" on Massdrop. If it's yours you have chosen well, are in good company, and just might be back for more. :-)
Cheers.

So, just out of curiosity, I'm wondering what colors everyone likes. I ordered the grey and turquoise, but the orange made it a tough choice! How about everyone else?

melrohnerThe orange was the one I was certain of, the flowers! I initially selected green for the second one, then edited it and chose purple (because 4 of the last 5 pens I've purchased have been green. It IS my favorite color, but, ya know....) Gray didn't do it for me, but honestly, other than knowing I definitely wanted orange, and didn't want gray, I had a lot of difficulty! I may change my second pen color again before it's over! I love the turquoise and though I'm sort of iffy on the red color, I love the mod pop art design on the grip. If I could afford it right now, I would order a second set so I could get 4 of the colors.

melrohnerTurquoise and purple are my choices! Fine nibs! It was hard to choose and I may join again for the other colors when it is brought back.
