Over the past few years, TFZ has become one of the Massdrop community’s favorite manufacturers of value IEMs. With the King Pro, the company brings that value to a higher-tier IEM Read More
Have there been any reviews on this yet? I'm really eager to jump on this but I want to know how much of an improvement it might be over the exclusive 5's or the Shure SE215's.
I got my pair on Friday and have 50 hours burn in on them. From the few minutes I've listened to them I'm impressed so far. Soundstage is great, and I didn't notice any glaring weaknesses. They are not overly bright, so I'm already happy with that. They drive a little easier than I was expecting....
Cosmetically, they're tfz's best so far. If unboxing is your thing, these are a step above previous tfz. More impressions on Tuesday or Wednesday when I have had some real time with them.
SciHoboDid you get these from massdrop or somewhere else? Im enjoying your impressions because I'm considering these myself. The would be an alternative to my Fiio F9s.
XerclifI couldn't wait for the drop, got them from lend me ur ears.
One other note, the little wire clamp that you can cinch up under your chin on these is pointless. It matches the unit well and looks nice but falls down on its own.
Otherwise I'm fully burned in and enjoying these. More mellow and detailed than the E5 with great staging/imaging. I listened to my stereo at home over the weekend and i couldn't wait to put these back in. Don't get me wrong, the imaging/staging of a headphone will never be right (has as much to do with recording as the headphones) or able to match a very good speaker in a good room, or hit your whole body with the same impact, but these are great. Very pleased so far.
Binaural tracks are almost pointless on these, since basically it all sounds binaural....
I have the ex kings, ex 5’s and 2 sets of 5’s because I like them the best. I hope the king pro’s have the bass of the 5’s and the soundstage of the kings without the damned brightness!
The 90x comes from it being a significantly longer run than your estimate, and into 8 ohm speakers.Headphones are going to be short enough (standard HD650 cable is ~3m long, but that’s also a 300 ohm headphone), and high enough impedance, unless you have an K1000 or something run across a large room, that your numbers were good. Nothing wrong with the math, just largely different criteria. The same change with headphones probably would have been less obvious, with the difference being significantly higher than ~90x. With it being that low (relatively speaking) I definitely noticed a change though.
ProfessorPatOh, speakers, that's right. With speakers I can see why a lower impedance cable can make a little difference in sound, using high-end gear and having good hearing skills.
If anyone's on the fence with these, I wrote up a fairly in-depth review detailing their sound, source synergy and extensive comparison to similarly priced models including the original King, IT01, EN700 Pro, F9 Pro, 1More Quad Driver and Dunu Falcon-C. These are really soild for the price, great build, nice technical sound with a brighter signature. I've also attached the FR graph below. Hope this helps some people out!

FR measurement (for reference, take its accuracy with a grain of salt):
Have the King Pro running now with the same 18AWG OCC bare solid core silver wire fed through PTFE tubes and JVC Spiral Dots as used with the King Exclusive. The midrange is far more fleshed out and pleasantly forward than with the King Exclusive. Listening at slightly higher gain is effortless and rewarding as the King Pro is more even across the frequency range, whereas the biting brightness of the Exclusives may surprise with more dynamic recordings. Both versions of the King are very resolving and wonderfully clear, though the Pro reveals a more natural timbre with absolutely sumptuous low frequency response. All is particularly apparent on Bill Frisell -East/West, a favorite album, with the steely texture of the guitar strings smooth, rich and subtly warm. The King Pro has really exceeded my expectations and this has been a super smooth drop with delivery earlier than expected!

Greetings Christian,
Apologies as I have not heard either of those products, though would appreciate if anyone has experience to provide comparisons.
I'm considering a large change if going to another IEM and have been following the discussion on HF for the new EE Phantom and Legend X. Either of the EE reference IEM's or the Abyss Diana would be quite the experience!
Kindest regards,

Run in my TFZ King Pro with Cayin N5ii under high gain (with free watch as gift) for 2 days. Sweet treble. A littile bit forward mid. Very punchy, but not overwhelming bass. Most important thing is you need to buy a DAP to drive it
I'm just assuming that " dual magnetic self-frequency graphene drivers " is another bullcrap marketing term that doesn't actually have a whole lot of meaning. The fact that it's on every site I find info on this device, and no data on what a Self-Frequency Driver actually IS, tells me that Massdrop merely copied and pasted the manufacturer's made up crap without finding out what the hell it is...
ReadWrytNo idea what self-frequency means, probably a mis-translation unless someone else can clarify. The dual magnet dynamic driver was pioneered by Cardas (details here: http://cardas.com/images/a8_driver_sheet.pdf).
It's an interesting read and the King Pro does extend very well which is backed up by measurements. The material of the driver is related to modal breakup. As graphene is very hard, it should theoretically aid high-frequency reproduction that requires the fastest acceleration of the driver diaphram.
Of course, none of these traits are specific to TFZ's earphones, but it's good to see them here at this price whether they actually have an impact on real world SQ or not.
Just looking for some advice on the differences between the King and the King Pro besides $50. Both are open drops at this time and want to see if the Pro's are worth the extra money. I already have the Exclusive 5's and love them. Are either of these worth it over the 5's? Thanks!
BenzerkThe King Experience with the fixed cable was a limited release version. That's the one I've got.

The King Pro dials down the lower treble presence quite a bit and raises the bass quantity. It has a warmer, smoother feel to it's sound than that of the original King. I wouldn't really call it a flat out upgrade in terms of sound, but more of a shift in signature preference. It retains what makes the original so good while also making them less bright and more listenable over longer periods. Where it is a clear upgrade is in the cable and overall build which is now completely metal. The y-split and jack are beefy hunks of steel or some other alloy though, so they're quite heavy.

(Ignore the Tequila 1 in the background. They use the same cable.)
To my ears, the IT01 is slightly v-shaped but in comparison to the rest of my IEM and headphone collection (KZ, Audio-Technica), it seems balanced. YMMV depending on your collection or what you've heard. Vocal presence and clarity is very good and haven't come across any sibilance yet (unless it was on the recording itself). I personally enjoy the amount of bass and I don't find it overwhelming. The treble isn't very fatiguing. With the right tips and fit, you can use these for hours and not get tired of them. The cable is great too and no microphonics at all.
F it, imma buy them. First IEM's I'll own, please shoot me a comment on recommendations. Apparently I'll need a DAC/AMP to drive these for best performance, is this true? Looking forward to using them in the office, from the work macbook.
Well, my phone is lg v20. Even in high impedance mode LG V20 lose Cayin N5ii in every aspect (e.g. soundstage).
DAP has its own advantage.
I am a Chord mojo owner, btw
