Is the A to A configuration a male/female cord (extension) or male/male (???)?

I don't suppose USB A to A is such a good idea. But if you are sure both computers are at the same 5 volts........

This is a cool concept. Great if you plan plan on making a single cable and really trust their QC as well as your own skills not to make a mistake. However, paying $9 for less than $3 worth of materials is a big no-go for me. I'd rather order $20 worth of materials myself and have enough to make multiple cables in case mistakes are made or for future builds. Still, I can see this fitting someone's needs perfect.

KamakaYeah, I'm the same way, but I suspect we're in the minority. Certainly my wife doesn't understand why I would want to have the materials to make ~100m of custom USB cables :)

DaedLol. Oddly enough my wife gets it. She actually ends up using my paracord and the occasional tool. It's helpful in justifying later purchases. It helps that I make cables for all my other hobbies and for her needs too.

mine does not work even though im sure i made everzthing according to the video. every time i connect it with something it draws so much power that the USB port shuts down because of safetyreasons. on both pc and mac. did i wire something wrong? maybe someone knows more, because the cable looks really great otherwise. had to shorten in because of the sleeve being shorter then the cable itself...

playec1992Sounds to me like you have a short circuit. Anything that puts +5V to ground will do it, but the first thing I'd check is the shield and metal connector body.

blue paracord was too short so had to default to my own supply of OD green. Not salty at all but it would have been nice to have the correct length of paracord.
if I ordered again it would be 5 feet, 3 feet is too short for my use

p5ycho6Happened to me too with the red. Got 36" of cable, and only 32" of paracord. Kind of sucked, but meh, hacked off some excess cable and was good to go. Sort of salty about it tho.

if the connector is already snapped down before you have inserted the wires, is there any way to unsnap it to put the wires in?

Got my cable today, Unfortunately the para-cord was badly damaged and was unusable. Other than that, the cable works fine, and I am pleased with it.

I got mine, and I think I did a few things wrong. The cable works absolutely fine, and I'm more than pleased with it, but I ended up frying my USB OTG cable because I misinterpreted the wiring instructions.. The sleeving included was unfortunately a few inches too short for the cable provided, but I cut the cable to the correct dimensions and it worked alright. The shrinkwrap also had some trouble shrinking to the size of the wire as well for some reason, so I gave up and left it without. I feel like I'm maybe not competent enough to try something like this again, but I'm satisfied with the finished product anyway.
