Support for Alternative Layouts
This is a summary of how alternative layouts have been supported by kits such as Colevrak and Homing. It is not a discussion of alt layout performance and development, but if that interests you I highly recommend starting with Pascal Getreuer’s A guide to alt keyboard layouts (why, how, which one?). It’s a concise and comprehensive overview with links to some great sites that go deeper. He also has a separate Links about keyboards page. The Keyboard layouts doc he recommends explains layout goals and metrics in detail, summarizing the alt layouts discussed here as well as more than one hundred others. It's just one guys opinion and he's not a mech keyboard guy outright, but damn is it stinging. This keyboard might be fine and he might have just got a dud, but also looking at the price, it might be a case of getting what you pay for. I think I'll avoid this drop.
In general, I'm getting kinda disappointed that I can't find review for a lot of the stuff I see on MassDrop. Like the Kanto speakers they keep putting up. A search for the exact same model number comes up with a totally different speaker set.
Massdrop source stuff straight from China and Taiwan for the most part. You'll pretty much have to read Chinese to be able to Google the original reviews back in China or such. That's how I dug up the source for the Zorro switches.
The Keycook 84 looks nice, but I really prefer the lipless design like on the Pok3r keyboards (but hate its lack of dedicated arrow keys). I might just buy this and if they switches suck, I can always order a bunch of MX blues and make it a fun weekend project.
